Does wood conduct electricity?

Yes. It is the question of how much.

Moisture meters use their conductive properties in order to measure the moisture content of wood.

According to Moisture Meters.com:

Pin meters are pins that are pushed into wood with a pusher. One pin is pushed into the wood, and current travels to another pin. The resistance to current is measured by the meter. Dry wood allows very little current to pass; damper wood allows more.
