Be aware that there have been many bright people before you. Take their advice. Devour schematics. What made them do what they did? There is always a reason for unusual circuit configurations. It is possible to figure it out.
Remember that your designs must work in real life. No component is perfect. When implemented, parasitic resistance, capacitance and even emi can conspire to destroy the best designs. Take apart a lot of things and ask “Why did they do that?” This will save you a design turn.
