How long does it take for an electric car to charge?

What is the average time it takes to fill a bucket with water? It all depends on how big the bucket is and whether you fill it with a firehose, a teaspoon or a cup.

The size and charging rates of electric cars can vary. Battery chargers can be as simple as a 120V 15A AC outlet or as complex and fast at 350 kW.

So given a big battery and a household outlet, maybe 100 hours. Given a fast charger maybe one hour to to from 1 to 100% give or take.

Like all other electric vehicles, EVs charge more quickly at the beginning and then slow down as the battery gets full. Because it slows down things, an EV driver won’t typically charge 100% for a trip. An average charging session would last 20 minutes.
