How To Apply for a Work Permit In Belgium

  1. The applicants must visit the Ministry of Brussels Capital-Region to request an employment permit.
  2. The Region is the sole authority that decides whether to approve your application. When your application has been approved and the cards are issued they are sent to the department of Work permit at the Brussels administrative center. The center will then call the applicant to appear to get the work permit.

What Are All The Eligibility

There are many types of Work Permits:

  • Work permit Type C foreign nationals who are within Belgium temporarily or are waiting for a decision regarding their rights to remain.
  • Typ-B Work Permits that are granted for a particular job by an employer only for the duration of no more than twelve months.
  • European blue cards is a privilege for highly educated employees in connection with the acquisition of a temporary work permit.
  • Type A work permits It is valid for the entirety of (paid) work of any duration , for any employer. It is only available to foreign workers employed for at minimum four years using the type-B work permit for an uninterrupted period not exceeding longer than 10 years in Belgium. In certain cases, the time of work is reduced.

It can take up to 6 weeks before you get your working permit.


A person who is registered in Brussels City of Brussels and who is required to have a work permit, can apply for one to the Ministry of Brussels Capital-Region. If not, it’s the employer who must complete this.
