  1. The first step in applying to get an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is to go to the Personnel License (PEL) Office to be screened for eligibility performed by UCAA Personnel personnel.

Eligibility

  • You must be at least 21 (21) years old.
  • The applicant must possess an active instrument rating that is valid and current ATPL.
  • A validand relevant medical certificate from an Ugandan certified medical examiner.
  • Have a valid and up-to-date Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)and an instrument rating.
  • The evidence of English ability to communicate.
  • The military experience is a requirement to be able to get the designation of a CPL or an instrument rating if the individual is a pilot with a rating or an ex-rated military pilot.
  • The applicant must be in holding either an international ATPL or an international CPL and have an instruments rating that is issued by a different Contracting State.
  • The type or class ratings you are planning for flying must be valid and current.
  • The requirements for aeronautical experience that are applicable for each license sought.

Validity

  • The Authority can issue a Validation certificate valid for 12 months to a holder who is younger than 40 years old, and for six months to a holder who is forty years old over.
  • The Authority may issue a valid certificate, which is valid for a year, insofar as that the license issued by the Foreign License, rating and medical certificates remain valid.
  • The Flight Engineers’ License validity is determined by the medical certificate issued by the engineer. This could be a six, twelve or twenty-four month period.

  • The processing period is 2 weeks and days.

Instructions

  • A person who holds a licence cannot exercise the rights conferred by the licence or the similar ratings, unless and until the holder is competent and has the required current experience set forth from the Authority.
  • If a person who holds an ATPL for helicopters and aeroplanes has reached his or her 40th birthday, then the twelve-month interval specified under sub-regulation (6) will be decreased to 6 months.
  • A certificate or licence that is issued by the Authority cannot be used only if the holder of the certificate or licence has written his name on the document in ink using the signature of the holder’s normal.
