- Identity cards applications to Maltese Citizens are processed at Gattard House, National Road, Blata l-Bajda and at 28A, St Francis Square, in Rabat (Gozo). You can visit the office ifyou:

Note: The new procedure will also include three additional applications, which include:

- and the KartAnzjan (in the instance of those who are 60 or older) the KartAnzjan (in the case of those who are 60 years or older

Required Documents For Apply for an Electronic Identity (eID) Card
First time applicants need to present the following information:
- it is the form ID 10
- a valid identification document (eg. an identity card or driving license) that is that is issued by an official source. It includes a recent photograph and the personal information of the person applying, or an identity document. The applicant must sign and show the section D from Form ID 10 (the Witness Form) that includes the declaration of an individual who has verified the identity of the applicant , and must include a photograph endorsed by the same witness.

- earlier version of the identity card (applicable only in instances when the person applying for it has obtained Maltese citizenship and has previously was a holder of previously an Identity Card bearing an A number);
- A confirmation letter or document issued by Department for Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs Department to prove the applicant’s Maltese citizenship (such evidence is not necessary in the event that the applicants are:(i) were born in Malta with parents who were union and at the time, their father was also a Maltese citizens, or
(ii) was born in Malta or in another country from 1 August 1989 to a Maltese Nationality parent or
(iii) adopted (iii) in Malta at a less than 10 years old, or
(iv) born (iv) in Malta of parents from abroad between the 10th of February, 1981 and 1st August , 1989 (applicable only if the parents weren’t diplomats) or
(v) (v) was born (v) born in Malta (v) was born in Malta, moved to the United Kingdom and obtained the status of a foreign citizen after the 10th of Februar 2000).
To update personal and/or address details on the identity cards of individuals:
- Formula ID 10 (duly completed)

Citizens who wish to use their ID card for travel:
- For Form ID 10, (duly completed);

- Your airline ticket
For those whose identity cards were lost or stolen:
- Formula ID 10 (duly completed);
- Police reports must include the number of the identity card used by the citizen and
- and a valid ID document from an official source. The document should include a current photo and the personal information that identify the person applying. If the applicant isn’t in a position to present an identity document, they must fill out and sign the Section D on Form ID 10. (the witness Form). This form should contain a statement from witnesses attesting to the identity of the applicant . The form includes a photo signed with the signature of that witness.

It should be pointed that in line with the legal Notice 340 of 2013, the validity of expired Identity Cards has been extended to December 31, 2015. The Identity Management Office’s plan to replace the previous version of identity cards before this time in a slow method and by a massive renewal process that is currently taking place in every area and is expected to be completed at the end of 2015.
