Eligibility

Every motor vehicle operating on Ugandan roads has to be covered against third party risks.

Fee

It varies greatly based what type of coverage chosen and the class to the which the vehicle is placed.
Motorcycles:

  • Own injury Ten percent calim Minimum shs 100,000
  • Loss and theft Loss of 15 percent or more. 100,000 recommended rates , 10 percent
  • Motor (private)
  • Saloon, satiation vehicle and pickups (private usage only)
  • Excess: Own damage 10% claim Minimum Shs 100,000
  • Total loss and theft 15% of the claim at least 100,000. The recommended rate is 4 percent.
  • Buses (minibus/taxi, coaster $buses).
  • PSV suggested rate 7.5 percent
  • PMO/ corporate and school buses, recommended rate of 6 percent
  • Special typeambulances, bullion vans and hearses firefighting vehicles , farm vehicles and Motor recovery vehicle.
  • Over: Damages to the claimant 10% of claim minimum Shs 200,000.
  • Total loss and theft 15% of the claims minimum Shs 200 000 recommended rate 4 percent.

Instructions

  • The obligation to have third party insurance is not applicable to vehicles owned by the Government.
  • Anyone who violates section 2(1) is guilty of an offense and is subject to a fine of not more than 100 thousand shillings, or to imprisonment that is not more than two years or to both of these fines and jail term.
  • Furthermore, a person who is found guilty must, unless the court has special reasons to think appropriate to make an order in the contrary in addition to any right that the court has to impose the extension of the duration of disqualification banned from obtaining or holding an driving license for twelve months following the date of the conviction, in addition to the sanctions that could be imposed pursuant to section.
