Method for changing the ownership of a school:

  1. The owner of the property writes to the Town’s PS/CAO Clerk with the intent to transfer ownership. They attach these documents to the letter:
    • Original registration certificate from the school.
    • Bank statement from the school detailing the financial condition
    • Financial report highlighting the creditors and the debtors of the school.
    • Transfer of the land title or tenancy agreement
    • Lists of staff members/students’ names
    • Inventory records (school structures,equipment, and instructional materials)
    • Other school records, such as UNEB centre award letters Students’ UNEB certificates and a note of the certificates taken and not taken
    • Lay out the school plan
    • The curriculum is offered in the school(subjects provided)
  2. The new owner needs to receive a letter from the PS/ES or the CAO/Town Clerk, allowing them to assume the ownership.
  3. To allow the owner of record to receive the letter, they need to attach the following items:
    • Documentation of the legal change in ownership, and this must include copies of the sales agreement.
    • A Five-Year Development Plan.
    • Your Curriculum Vitae and passport photographs.
    • A bank statement is evidence of a sound financial situation.
    • Teaching staff evidence-for the reasons of smooth transition it is recommended to stay with the staff in place unless there is a compelling reason to make a change.
    • An application form that is completed to register with all the details for the owner who is to be replaced.
  4. After filling out the form, proceed to pay the fee as directed. Be aware that payments can be made with cash, cheque or credit card i.e. Visa or MasterCard If you are making a cheque payment, please pay an Accountant General from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
  5. The department will examine your application and then approve the application form.
  6. The application will then be examined and an official certificate will be issued to you.
    • Any school owner who makes a change without the prior approval of the PS/ES or the CAO/Town Clerk can result in the closure of the school and the immediate cancellation its registration document (Section 37 (2) of the Education Act -( Primary, Pre-Primary and Post-Primary) Act 2008). Any school that is registered in the Ministry of Education and sports that wishes to relocate is qualified.

Fees

  • Contact the department office for changes in ownership fees specifics. Registration and licensing of schools is provided free for all schools.
