Apply for Electrician or Wire man License or Permit In Uganda By Yourself
- Candidates will have to submit an application in writing in writing to Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) with an ERA approved application form. Send it your application form to ERA office branch, where you will be scheduled for an interview.
- You will be required to appear before the interview panel with original documents,certificates and testimonials. The applicants will also have to provide a credible and convincing presentation of their technical skills or training in order to justify the awarding of the permit category sought.
- Your application and supporting documents will be scrutinized, checked and evaluated by the committee responsible for installation and if all your details is correct, you will receive the permit or licence upon the payment of the application fee.

Anyone who applies for an electrician license are subject to the payment of 120,000 Ugx.
The following fees are applicable to all Permit Classes:
Class A 140,000 Ugx
Class B, 105,000 Ugx
Class C, 70,000 Ugx
Class D 35,000 Ugx
Class Z, 100,000 Ugx
For registered companies, and registered businesses, the amount is 695,000 Ugx.

Installation permits applications are only processed once the permit application fee has been paid. The permit application fee is payable to the ERA bank account. The details of the bank are listed below.

A person will not get a licence in accordance with these Regulations only if he or she has one of the following qualifications:
- A degree from a university in the subject of study
- A Higher Technician’s Diploma;
- An Ordinary Technician’s Diploma
- A Master Craftsman’s Certificate;
- A Craftsman’s Certification or an Intermediate Certificate or
- Any other technical qualifications that is recognized to be recognized by Committee.
The criteria above will determine the permit type that will be issued to the Installations Permits Committee shall issue to each individual applicant.
Types of Permit
The Installations Permits Committee may, subject to the conditions it can apply it, issue any one of the following kinds of permits:
- Class A permits the carrying out of any electrical installation work on payment of the required cost;
- Class B permits the carrying out of electrical installations of moderate value or complexity that includes simple and heavy low voltage high-voltage connections that can reach 11 kV.
- Class C to carry out electrical installations of such little value as:
- Installation in multi-storied flats as well as mansions, big mansions, and other large bungalows with elaborate designs and commercial structures;
- installation of light plant up to 415 volts.
- Class D is for the execution of work that is restricted to a specific kind of electrical installation that includes:
- the installation of residential buildings with no more than five bedrooms and
- repairs to equipment up to 240 volts.
- Class Z to perform specialization fields such as:
- switch gear installation;
- Central cooling and refrigeration
- installation of generator sets
- solar systems as well as
- Electrical installation and design systems.
