Firework licences were issued by OFT. Office of Fair Trading (OFT) which ensures the safety of public storage facilities that are safe for the public to be installed on retail premises and that no prohibited fireworks are available for sale, or that fireworks containers are not being divided.

Information that can be useful

In the Fireworks Act 2004, you are only allowed to sell fireworks during these times:

  • the period that begins on October 25 and up to the 5th of November
  • time period from 26 December to up to 31 December

If you want to sell fireworks outside of the timeframe above, you must send a notice to Department of Home Affairs. Department of Home Affairs and announce in the Manx newspaper dates, times, and the location of the planned firework display. An official receipt of the Department of Home Affairs must be provided prior to a purchase of fireworks is permitted.
Fireworks sold outside of the time limit does not apply to the following people:

  • a professional , experienced organiser or performer of fireworks displays
  • A person whose profession or business involves the sale of fireworks
  • an authority of the public for an event of firework displays
  • an individual who has given an official notice in writing to the Department of Home Affairs
  • A person who uses the firework as an effect in a theatre in film, or on television
  • an individual who has been authorized to do so by an official of the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading to carry out tests for the purpose of conducting tests on the security of fireworks
  • any establishment belonging to the naval, military , or Air forces from the Crown to display an event of fireworks

fireworks – Four Categories

  • Category 1 – Indoor fireworks are available to the general population
  • Categories 2 and 3. Outdoor fireworks are available to the general population
  • Cat 4 – cannot be distributed to the general population.

Fireworks under Category 4 can only be supplied to a restricted range of persons and organisa, eg. the ones who organize professional display.
