  1. A request for this license is to be in reference to a particular location and be made in Form IV.
  2. Mineral Location Licences are obtained through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development department of the Directorate Geological Survey and mines.
    • Anyone should not be able to begin or find any mineral ground without a license from the directorate or authorities concern, unless the person is a holder of a valid license issued specifically for this reason.
    • Anyone who, in the absence of an appropriate specific license issued for this purpose, engages in mining of minerals in any prescribed location or zone; or engages, in any prescribed area or location in the selling, buying or mining of minerals, is guilty of an offence.
  3. Make sure you fill out the correct application form according to the instructions provided from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
  4. Once you have completed the form, complete the form and pay the cost.
  5. Complete the form along with the your pay slip to Directorate of Geological survey and mines Officer or CAO responsible for the region.
  6. Take possession of your Mineral Locational License from the place where you submitted your application within 21 days of the date that the application was accepted by the Directorate of Geological survey and mines, or the office of the chief administrative officer(CAO)in the event of no rejection.A Location licence is issued on form XXI.

  • The application form is available in 5 copies
  • A sketch map on size of 1:150,000 (in five copies) that shows the location of the place.
  • A description of the state of the Environment.
  • The mining plan is to be executed.
  • Document that demonstrates the Mineral rent applicable
  • The proof of payment
  • Attach a document with the specifics about the Mineral.
  • Attach a report on prospecting activities.
  • Attach a map of this region with coordinates
  • A statement that outlines the specifics and the what mining is.
  • The capital and the experience required to run mineral prospecting operations.
  • A certified document that proves you have reached agreement with Landlord.

Eligibility

  • All businesses and other stakeholders who are interested in exploring in search of Minerals within Uganda are eligible.
  • Any business that is qualified according to the terms and conditions as prescribed at any time by pertinent Institutions can apply to be granted or awarded of a lease, license or contract, as the situation may be, for the exploration of minerals in Uganda.

Fees

  • Application Fees 1,000,000 Ugshs Non-Refundable.
  • Industrial minerals Location Licence- 5,000,000 Ugshs.

Validity

  • Valid for a long duration of time.

Information that could be helpful

  • When an application in accordance with the subregulation (1) (1) of the regulation is made however the holder hasn’t been informed that their licence was renewed prior to the date that the licence is due to expire the holder is permitted to continue to explore until notified of the renewal is effective from the date that it would the renewal had expired.
