  • To apply for Mining Permit or License in person, the applicant is required to go to the Mining Cadastre Office within the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development (MMSD). Contact details and address are available at this link contact details

  • Visit the office to get an application form to apply for a Mining Permit in accordance with the lease type the applicant is seeking from Mining Cadastre Offices or download the this form from the site link.
  • Fill out the application form by providing pertinent information within the sections. Sign it after you have completed it.
  • After filling out an application for admission, be sure you’ve uploaded all the documents mentioned under the “Required Documents” section on this page.
  • Then, you must submit it to the authority responsible at the office in three copies with all the required documents. Finally, pay the processing fees required in cash to the MCO.
  • Each application is given an identification code, and is registered with the dates, hours and minutes within the priority register.. The application is duly signed. A copy of the acknowledgment will be provided an acknowledgement copy to applicants.
  • After receiving an application The MCO will notify the landowner or occupiers to obtain an irrevocable agreement to submit to the MCO in 7 business days.
  • An applicant is informed of the necessary changes when necessary within a timeframe of five working days If no response is received within the stipulated time then your application is denied without refund. When all information has been confirmed and verified, the MCO will enter spatial and non-spatial data from the application into their system after which the application is examined and then recommended.
  • After evaluation and recommendation, the applicant is awarded the lease, license, or permit. After being granted the lease or license, the applicant has to pay the annual fee after two weeks.

Note:

The fee is the conditions for taking possession of the license or lease or permit. If the person applying fails to pay the annual service fee within 14 (14) days of the date of the notice of grant the grant will be cancelled.

    • Pre-Feasibility report complete with COMEG seal , signature and seal
    • Prospecting plan / reserve estimation
    • Extant Exploration license

    • Attestation that there is no conviction for crimes pursuant to the Act

What are all the Eligibility

To be eligible for an Mining Lease, a qualified applicant must be a corporate body legally incorporated in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act or another legal entity thatis

  • Have proved under the conditions set out within the regulation that commercial amount of mineral resources exist within the zone to which application filed in the regulations; and

Validity

Mining leases are valid for a time period of 25 years and is renewable every 24 years. A small-scale mining lease valid for five years, which is renewable every five years.

Processing Time

The time frame for processing an mining/quarry/small mining lease is 45 days after the time of filing.

Instructions

  • If the license is granted, the applicant must be informed of the decision and given two weeks in which to make payment of the service charge for mining permits before the license is paid.
  • The lease runs for an amount that is 25 years.
  • However, if the grantee is unable to pay the annual service fee within 14 days of the date of the grant notification the grant will automatically be taken away.

In general it takes MCO approximately 45 days in order to approve a mining lease or license upon receipt of the application.
