  1. Prepare and gather the necessary documents for the category you’re applying for.

Work permit for investors

  1. Investors submit their application along with the necessary supporting documents and forms to UIA.
  2. In the UIA The applications are evaluated and approved through The Executive Committee.
  3. The process of evaluating the project could require visiting the site of the project to see the investment in the field and the the number of new jobs (local or foreign) generated.
  4. After approval by UIA after which the request for work permits will be sent to the Immigration Office, who is then able to grant the final approval.

Note:

Appeal/ Problem Cases
  • A candidate whose rejection is appealable before the minister for Internal Affairs. The appeal must be filed within one month from the time the applicant receives notification of the rejection. Appeal requests are addressed to the Minister for Internal Affairs . appeals can be made through USappeal of $500 is not refundable.

There are various kinds of work permits that are available to Uganda

  • A2 (Parastatal service) Candidates must be employed by the Government, such as those employed by government tertiary institutions.
  • The class B (Agriculture) The applicants must be those who intend to put money into the industry of animal husbandry or farming.
  • Classes C (Mining) Candidates must be investors who intend to enter into the venture of prospecting for minerals , or mining operations in Uganda.
  • Classes D (Business) Candidates must be individuals who plan to conduct trade or business in Uganda.
  • The class is E (Manufacturing) Candidates must be individuals who intend to establish a manufacturing company in Uganda.
  • Classes F (Professionals) The applicants must be members of a professional association who intend to perform their occupation in Uganda.
  • Classes G1 (Missionaries, Volunteers and NGOs) Missionaries, Volunteers, NGOs and missionaries
  • Class G2 (Expatriate employees) Expatriate employees.

  • A work permit is a way to claim benefits from employment in Uganda.
