  • You can ask for an original photocopy of your birth certificates in person, or you can also submit your request by email (see the contact details below). Please note that there is no option to apply online.
  • If you are submitting your request, ensure that you’ve included the following information:
    • your birth date
    • the place where you were born
    • Your parents’ names
    • the current address of your postal address, if you are applying from an overseas location
    • Payment for the certificate. If the certificate is requested from an overseas payment is made at the Cook Islands’s High Commissioner/Consulate or through Western Union (for details please contact the department) NB. All payments must be in NZ currency.

What Are All The Eligibility

Who is eligible to apply for birth certificates?

  • You may apply for your birth certificate on your own.
  • Your family members who are close may request a birth certificate.


  • Each certified duplicate of an entry from the register book of the office of the Registrar, as well as for each certified duplicate of an entry made in an office belonging to the Registrar General (when the correct year is stated): $25.00

For each certificate of the date of birth, when the it is the correct year, which includes any certificate issued in accordance with subsection 44 under the Act: $15.00


The Registry Office only records births that take place in the Cook Islands. The Registry Office does not keep birth records from “Cook Islanders” who are born outside of those in the Cook Islands.
