Import Motor Vehicle or Motor Cycle In Jamaica By Yourself

  1. You must first apply for an import permit from Jamaica’s Trade Board to import a motorcycle or motor vehicle. You can view the contact information and map for Trade Board via this link: Link
  2. You can apply for an import permit in person. Download the application form Link and complete it. After paying the application fee, submit the completed application along with all required documents to the Trade Board office. Processing will take place within twenty-four hour.
  3. Online submissions for import permits can be made via the Jamaica Single Window for Trade portal (JSWIFT). Please refer to wikiprocedure : Jamaica – Import Licence / Permit for more information about how to apply for the permit online.
  4. Once you have obtained the import permit order, your motor vehicle/cycle will be shipped to Jamaica via the port of entry
  5. After your shipment arrives, you’ll need to visit Jamaican Customs to clear the Motor vehicle/cycle. The Link link will take you to the Jamaican Customs Agency contact information.
  6. You will need the supporting documents to clear customs before you can go to the office. These documents are:
    • A bill of sight must be prepared by a certified customs brokerage.
    • Simplified Administration Document (This document must be prepared and signed by a certified customs broker).
    • License for import
    • Title from the supplier
    • Invoice from supplier
    • The shipping agent will send you a bill of lading
    • Tax compliance certificate from Jamaican Tax office
  7. Once you have all required clearance documents, submit them at the customs office. They will validate them and begin the process of clearing your motor vehicle/cycle.
  8. After clearing your motorcycle/motor vehicle, you will be permitted entry into Jamaica
Please note that anyone importing a motor vehicle without a valid Import Licence is subject to a three-fold fine and seizure.

  • If you don’t have the vehicle, get a Pro-Forma invoice
  • If you are the owner of the vehicle, registration documents
  • Certified copies of two valid identifications (Voter ID and Driver’s License; Jamaican passport page)
  • TRN
  • For foreign residents, a copy of the Jamaican work permit or any other document proving legality of stay in Jamaica
  • Photo of Passport with bio-data page for foreign nationals

Eligibility

Fees

  • Online motor vehicle applications cost $6,407.50 per unit. Manual applications are $6,407.50 plus $2,330.00 (walk in fee)

Instructions

  • A Returning Resident or individual can import one motor vehicle, one light-commercial vehicle, or two light-commercial vehicles. Or one light commercial and one regular vehicle within three years. These restrictions are in accordance with the Age Guidelines set out in Section 6.0.
  • Except for certified motor vehicle dealers and companies, they are permitted to import up to three units in accordance with the Policy’s age limits. This is for a period of three years. The import permits that allow such companies to import such vehicles will include a 12-month restrictive clause. This prohibits the sale, transfer or pledge of unapproved motor vehicle units. All requirements for more than three units must be fulfilled by local certified dealers.
  • Importing heavy-duty trailers or trucks does not require an import license. The Island Traffic Authority must be notified in writing by the importer (individual, company) before the vehicle/s can be imported.
