Other

  • The most commonly used motor insurance policies that are available in Uganda include Motor Third Party Insurance (which is required) as well as Motor Comprehensive.
  • Motor Third Party insurance (MTP) is a mandatory insurance policy for cars (including motorbikes) that operate in Uganda that compensates and shields road users who might get injured or killed caused by a vehicle.

Note
This would give any person who was who is injured and/or killed (their beneficiaries) up to 1,000,000 UGX. It does not mean that the responsibility due to the owner of the vehicle is limited to 1,000,000- it is only the amount that the insurance company will pay to settle the obligation due.

  • Motor Third Party insurance only covers death or injury and doesn’t protect damage to property. For instance, suppose there was an incident that damaged a structure and injured a passer-by. MTP will compensate the victim but not for the damage to the building.
  • You could upgrade the level of your Motor Third Party Insurance cover to, say, Motor Comprehensive which will add to your limit and cover damages to your property.
