Obtain the Minister Marriage License In Jamaica By Yourself

  1. Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is the ministry responsible for issuing the minister’s (marriage license) license. You can access their contact information via this link: Link
  2. To obtain the MOJ office’s blank minister’s license form, visit the customer service section. The declaration form can be downloaded directly from this link: Links.
  3. Next, fill out the Declaration form correctly following the instructions in the “Instructions”. A declarant (proxy), in the presence a Justice-of-the-peace (JP), can be a friend or family member.
  4. For a stamp fee of Jamaican Four Thousand Dollars (J$4,000.00), get the blank minister’s wedding license form stamped at Stamp Duty Office, 111 Harbor Street Kingston, Jamaica
  5. Prepare all necessary documents for both the bride and groom. You can also send the documents to a proxy who is helping you with the process if you are not located in Jamaica.
  6. Send the MOJ customer service section the completed declaration form and stamped minister’s marriage licence form along with all required documents.
  7. The customer service representative will review your application and, if correct, forward it to the appropriate department.
  8. The MOJ will approve your application and process it. Once that is complete, the minister marriage license will issue to you.

Eligibility

  • Both must be at the least 18 years old
  • Parental consent is required if either of the parties is 16- or 17-years old
  • Blood relatives should not be considered as parties
  • You are not legally married to another person
  • In Jamaican Laws, parties must consist of both male and female.

Processing Time

  • Documents received by 12.00 on business days will be processed the same day or the next business day. However, requests for divorce that were granted locally can take up to seven business days to process.

Instructions

  • Only Jamaica is eligible for the license.
  • The License is valid for 90 days from the date it was issued. If the License expires before it is used, the intended parties must reapply to obtain a new license.
  • Reapplication involves the submission of a new Form of Declaration, duly authorized; a newly stamped blank Minister’s License (Page 2) and evidence of payment. The Commissioner General of Tax Administration Jamaica may approve the transfer of the stamp duty fee or make a new payment.
  • Documents supporting documents may be used that have been submitted previously. These documents can only be used within the 90-day period following expiration of the license.
  • A set of copies is required to be used for office purposes in cases where original documents are submitted. Clients may request that certified documents be retained for office purposes or to provide additional documents if they are submitted.
