How To Register a Death In China

  • According to the Ordinance on Births and Deaths Registration Ordinance, you must register deaths due to natural causes in less than 24 hours. In the majority of cases the medical professional who treated the deceased during the time of their last sickness will be able to sign an Medical Certificate of the Cause of death (Form 18.). The patient must take your death certificate to the register of deaths to register of the death. For the case of a death that was caused by non-natural causes like violent or poisonous substances, the situation is brought to the attention of the Coroner. The Coroner could conduct a postmortem examination or an inquiry to determine the reason for the death. Once it is determined that the reason for death has been established, the Coroner will notify the Registrar of Deaths to record the death. The Registrar then informs the relatives of the deceased by writing once the death has been recorded.
