Transfer Ownership of a Vehicle In Bermuda By Online
Request a transfer test Certificate through the Transport Control Department.
Before you go in to have your car examined, ensure:
- that you’ve set up your appointment TCD to have your car test for transfer
- The car is clean and it works (please look at the info sheet: Private car inspection)
- the car is insured
- the sale is likely to be completed within a month after having the transfer test of the vehicle
In the course of your transfer exam, inform the examiner of:
- The bill of sale
- the insurance certificate
- the license plate of the car (if the vehicle is offered for sale without license plates)
If the vehicle passes the test for transfer the examiner will provide you the following:
- A transfer test certificate that is which is valid for one calendar month starting from day the vehicle was tested
- the invoice of sale
- the insurance certificate you received.
Notes:
- The buyer is accountable for the fee to register the transfer that covers costs for the test to be taken during the transfer.
- If you want to keep your license plate number on your new vehicle the car you have previously owned could be transferred without the number plates.

Ownership transfer
- the owner (seller) of the car has to sign the Bill of Sale.

Validity
Transfer test certificates are valid for one month. Transfer test certification can be used for a month from the time the vehicle was examined.
It is essential that the sale be concluded prior to the time that the transfer test certificate is due to expire.
Instructions
The person who is selling their vehicle will require these documents to ease the process of transfer:
- The transfer test certification
- A bill of sale
- The old license
Transfer certifications for tests were issued by the Transport Control Department.
