  1. To register to vote in Jamaica, visit the Electoral Commission of Jamaica office in your locality. You can view the Link ECJ constituency contact information and addresses.
  2. You can visit the ECJ office in your locality during normal business hours, which are from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Fridays. Bring your ID documents, and if you have just turned 18, your proof of age.
  3. The registration ECJ registration clerk will need to see your identification documents. They will then collect your personal data and assist you in filling the Registration Record Card. This form records your fingerprints, demographic information, and photograph.
  4. After submitting the application, a visit will be made to your home by the ECJ representative as well as representatives from the political parties.
  5. After verification of your address, your application is processed. Your information will be verified for accuracy. Fingerprints are cross-matched so that there are no duplicates in the voters’ register.
  6. Your name will then be added to the voter’s list. After the voters list is published, your ID card will also be issued. This could be May 31 or November 30, depending on when you registered.

Eligibility

Each Jamaican citizen with the following qualifications can register to vote

  • An 18-year-old Jamaican citizen who is a resident of Jamaica.
  • A commonwealth citizen is one who is at least eighteen years old and is a resident of Jamaica at the time of registration.
  • Is not subject to any legal incapacity for voting such as being unsound, convicted or under suspended sentence.
