The field of Electrical Engineering is very broad. There are two main branches to core electrical engineering: Power Electronics and Drives and Power Systems. This classification is, of course, based on the needs of various industries.
Power Electronics and Drives is the study of high-power (that is, high voltage, high frequency) electronics and drives (that’s motors and generators). This field focuses on the design, optimization and analysis of these systems.
It is a branch in applied engineering, and is very active in research.
Power Systems is responsible for the planning, operation, and management of power generation and transmission. This sector is home to many public companies, as well as several private players.
