Why do people take electronics above mechanical in BITS and IITs even when there are so few core companies in electronics in India at least?

There are few core companies that specialize in electronics and mechanical. The electronics core companies such as Texas Instruments and AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Nvidia, and Nvidia pay much more for the electronic role (15-25* LPA), than for the core role in mechanical/chemical core companies such as Tata Motors, Schlumberger or other automobile companies (6-10* LPA). *: These figures are representative and may not be exact.
To maximize the package, electronics branches are preferred over mechanical. This is why the average/median electronics branch package will be much higher than that of mechanical/chemical in any IIT/BITS.

Many electronics students who have graduated from IITs are now working in IT companies. It is also common for IT companies to pay more than electronics companies. Many IT companies permit students from CS and electronics fields (EE, ECE Electronics & Instrumentation etc.) to attend interviews. However, they do not permit other core branches (mechanical or chemical etc. This rule seemed a little arbitrary to me, but it is what it is. This increases the average electronics package compared to mechanical. Some IT companies allow students from all branches to apply.

If one is interested in doing an MS abroad, CS and EE departments are often considered to be similar. People often complete an MS in CS following a BTech/BITS in EE. It is rare for core students in engineering or math to be admitted into an MS CS program.
PS: I will elaborate. Most EE students would have studied courses such as microprocessor, IoT and communication systems. These can all be considered inter-disciplinary and CS related. They can also get CS MS admissions. These (EE or CS) courses are not allowed to be taken by mechanical students. Some colleges, such as BITS, allow only EE students to take a few CS electives. However, mechanical students are not allowed.

It doesn’t matter if one is looking for a different career path, such as MBA or civil service (UPSC), electronic or mechanical work can be done. This career path is often chosen by people who are from both streams.

Fun fact: Over many years, I have observed that one person cannot beat the intelligence of another ( Genetic algorithms

). It seems that the cutoff trends for branches of IITs/BITS are continuing as they have in previous years. They also appear to be in line with the trend of the average/median packages. I.e. I.e.
