1. Download the form to apply for passports at the nearest Immigration office which is free for you to use. The form can also be downloaded from the Department of Immigration Republic of Malawi website. You can download the form here: http://www.immigration.gov.mw/DownloadForm.aspx. If you live outside Malawi the application form can be obtained from an application form from the closest Malawi foreign mission.
2. File or submit your application.
3. After filing and collection for the request, the person submitting the request must have the part B commissioned by a Magistrate or commissioner for oaths.
4. The applicant has to be able to report at the District Commissioners Office where he or she is from to verify the location of birth on the part C.
5. The applicant has to present him or himself to one of the three immigration Offices: Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu in accordance with the location where they are in order to be able to follow up and undergo extensive interviews conducted by an Immigration Officer at the counter.
6. The applicant will be required to submit his or biometrics (picture fingerprints, picture, and the signature) taken.
7. The applicant has to pay the fee for the passport in the Malawi Savings Bank located within the Immigration Offices.

The applicant has to prove to the Immigration Officer that he/she is a legitimate citizen from Malawi. They must also provide proof of identity in the manner required.

Instructions

• Passport applicants shouldn’t make travel arrangements until the passport is issued. The passport applicant should apply at least 20 days prior to the date of their departure.
• Female applicants who are married and want to apply for a passport have to present the names of their husbands upon presentation of the marriage Certificate. If they wish to change back to their maiden names in the event of divorce or death of husband the death or divorce certificate must be presented to authorize the change.
