Apply for Permit to Play Musical Instrument in Public in Hong Kong
- In order to apply for a Permit to play a musical instrument in public, you’ll have to submit applications with the Liquor and Miscellaneous Licensing Department.
- The application form is included under the “Documents to Use’ section which is available to download the form. Applications are also available at the Police Licensing Office at 12/F, Arsenal House, Police Headquarters or from the Police Report Rooms
- Forms that are completed can be handed in by mail or in person to the Police Licensing Office in person or by post.
The majority of applications are accepted within 14 working days.

The document is needed
- In accordance with the Summary Offences Ordinance in the Summary Offences Ordinance, Cap. 228, s4(15), Laws of Hong Kong, no person may perform any musical instrument on any road or street that is public other than according to the terms of any special or general permit which The Commissioner of Police within his sole discretion can issue.
- The nature of the performance or event that requires the playing of musical instruments in a public spaces, this activities could also be controlled in accordance with the Places of Public Entertainment Ordinance, Cap. 172. This falls under the jurisdiction of Food and Environment Hygiene Department (FEHD).
