Apply For Register Design in New Zealand
- Before you can file the design, you’ll be required to first prepare representations. Representations are pictures or drawings which show various views of the objects.
- Each page of representations should be saved as a single digital in your PC. You can upload as many images as you need to illustrate the style. More than one photo, image or view could be inserted on one page.
- The Statement of Originality: It’s an uncomplicated description of what’s unique in the design. The statement about novelty isn’t necessary for wallpaper, textiles and the like.

- Before you send your form be sure to review your application thoroughly and make any adjustments before submitting. To save a draft version of your application, but not submit it, click Save. Printouts can be made of your application by selecting Download PDF Report.
- Submit the form when you’ve completed your application and are ready to move to pay. The description of your fee will be displayed at end of the main page for application as well as in the page for payment.
- If you’ve got a direct debit option connected onto your IPONZ account, you can select your Direct Debit option to pay. In other cases, choose Credit Card or Internet Banking and complete the payment.
- You’ll receive a confirmation message informing you that your application was submitted. A confirmation as well as a brief report on the submission will be posted under the section titled Discussion in the IPONZ Inbox.

Validity
designs: Renewal dates are determined at 5 years, then 10-years from date of initial registration. The renewal is due within 6 months from the date of renewal otherwise the registration will be cancelled.
