Apply for Registering a Civil Union in New Zealand
- In the civil union ceremony you must complete two copies of a form called ‘Copy Of Particulars of Civil Union’..
- One copy will be given to the civil union Celebrant in the direction of the Registrar of Civil Unions who issued your civil union license so that the civil union could be recognized as a registered civil union.
- The second copy will be handed by the court as a document for your union.

What are all the Eligibility

- Each party must be 16 years old older or more.
Each party must sign an unambiguous statement in which it mentions both parties and states that they have joined as a union civil one another
Instructions
- A formal declaration of parties mentioned to the Civil Union Licence (the celebrant must verify that the parties that are set to be joined are actually the ones listed in the Civil Union Licence);
- The exchange of declarations of the civil union;
- After the two copies of registration documents (Copy Of Particulars Civil Union) have been authenticated and signed, Civil Union Celebrant must sign and be witnessed. Civil Union Celebrant must return the copy of the Registrar to the Registry Office that issued the Registry Office within 10 calendar days. The couple will keep another copy
- A Civil Union Celebrant must take every reasonable step to ensure that the civil union is recorded with Births, Deaths , and Marriages.
- You can make use of the ‘Copy Particulars of Civil Union’ to accomplish this. However, since the “Copy of the Particulars of Civil Union’ is an exclusive document from the date of the ceremony, with the signatures of both parties in it, you might prefer purchasing an official civil union certificate from Births, Deaths , and Marriages to use for all purposes.
