How fast do electrons spin?

The electrons do not spin. They also don’t spin like tiny planets around the sun.

They do however have several properties, orbital angular moment and spin angular momentum. This helps us visualize it and make it more understandable.

This does not necessarily mean that they are actually performing this motion. We’ve used the same words for macroscopic objects as we use for macroscopic ones, since they follow many of the same laws.

Perhaps it’s the fault physicists of using the same term – but it makes a lot of sense to use the word “spin” when it is first introduced in the mathematical machinery.
