Apply for a Private Domiciliary Clinic License In Uganda By Yourself

  1. For a request for a private domicile clinic license, the applicant must visit the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council in Health department in the offices of the Council and fill out an application according to the prescribed procedure as outlined in the city Council.Find their website by clicking on the following Link
    • The Act states that registered nurses; and enrolled or registered midwife who plans to establish a domiciliary health unit or a maternity care home must submit a request to the council for registration of the domiciliary healthcare unit or mother-in-law home.
  2. Then the applicant has to complete and submit this prescribed form available at the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council headquarters. It is the Council (Licensing Board) Regulations, will define the forms C to be used to be used for the application to obtain the licence.
  3. Fill out the form C with all the details together with the other pertinent documentation to Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. If you fail to submit the required documents could render the application inadmissible.
  4. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council Licensing board must within 5 days of receiving an application, conduct an investigation and write a comprehensive report on the application.
    • The Act states that the council orally, after having an inquiry and paying an amount of money set to it by council approve the registration and license of the Private domiciliary health facility or maternity home. Upon the registration, a license will be issued to the private domiciliary healthcare unit or the maternity home.
  5. Pay a non-refundable License Application fee of sixty-two thousands fifty (62,500) Shillings payable to the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (Licensing) Board.
  6. The Act stipulates the procedure for registration. the council can, upon conducting the inquiry that it deems essential, and after receiving an amount set to be set by the council approve the registration of a specific health center.
    • The registrar should not create a domiciliary health unit or maternity care home in the name of an accredited nurse or midwife unless registered registrar is satisfied there is a registered medical professional within the area who supervises the domiciliary health facility or the maternity home.
  7. The Authority will inform the applicant in writing, of the Authority’s decision. within 7 days following the mentioned time frame The Health committee of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council will and, upon registration, domiciliary is registered under the Act and a license is issued according to the guidelines laid in Form C of the third Schedule or may decide to issue a license to the and shall provide the reasons in the notice.
  8. Based on the decision of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and subject to any conditions the council can decide the registrar is able to authorize a private domiciliary Health Unit operated by a medical assistant or nurse or midwife, as the case may be, solely for the usage of a corporate body of an institution, but under the supervision by a registered medical practitioner.
  9. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council will make a private health facility to be listed in the Gazette within a short time after registration is granted and a license issued to an domiciliary health unit, with the specifics for the health unit, as specified under section 33 in the Act.
  10. The license is subject to conditions and terms that health committees of council determines to be appropriate. The private domiciliary health unit is also subject to oversight and supervision by the council’s health committee.
  11. A license will expire at the end of the year following when it was issued. The license can be renewed for a year at a given time.

  • Registration certificate/professional ID should be attached on the application form
  • A copy of the receipt for domiciliary for personal practice licenses should be included to your application.
  • A private license is required as part of the licensing process for an individual domiciliary clinic.
  • The private practice book, which is stamped, should be affixed to the application form.
  • Original certificate or ID of professional with a photocopy for all certifications.
  • Previous receipts should be presented in case of renewal for private domiciliary clinic.

Fees

Fees for the domiciliary of private license fees.

  • 500.000/= is the amount of licenses necessary to build Domiciliary Homes in hard to access areas(Rural).
  • The 60,000/= amount is the amount of licenses required for Domiciliary homes in Urban areas.
  • 65,000= is the licensing fee for nursing homes that are difficult to access in areas(Rural)
  • 75,000= is the licensing charges for nursing homes in Urban areas.
  • 39,000$ is the renewal fees for a domicile home.

Validity

  • Private General Nursing Clinic and domiciliary midwifery clinic licenses are valid for three years licenses and are required to be renewed by the 31st day of March in each year.

Processing Time

  • The maximum processing time for private domiciliary clinics is 7 days

Instructions

  • Private clinics that do not have a domicile must sign up with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and be familiar of the regulations that govern the practice of medicine in Uganda.
  • If your last renewal was made more than three years ago, there’s the possibility of a late payment charge.
