Apply for a Private Nursing Health Unit License In Uganda By Yourself

  1. In order to apply for a nursing Health unit License, applicants must visit the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council in Health department at the offices of the Council and fill out an application according to the prescribed procedure as outlined in the city Council.Find their website by clicking on the following Link
    • The Act stipulates that registered nurses; and enrolled or registered midwife who wants to establish a nurse health unit or a maternity care home must seek approval from the council for the approval of the nurse health unit or mother-in-law home.
  2. After that the applicant will be required to fill out an application template C accessible at the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council headquarters. It is the Council (Licensing Board) Regulations will prescribe the forms C to be used for the application of the certificate.
  3. Complete the C form in full together with the other necessary documentation to Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. If you fail to submit the required documents will make the application process insufficient.
  4. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council Licensing board will within five days of receiving an application, review and produce a thorough report on the application.
    • The Act stipulates that the council must after conducting inquiries and receiving a prescribed fee by council approve to register the nurse health facility or maternity care facility; and after registration, a license will be issued to cover the needs of the nurse health center or the maternity home.
  5. Pay a non-refundable License fees of one hundred and eighty thousand (180,000) dollars for the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (Licensing) Board.
  6. The Act sets out the procedures for registration; the council is able to, after conducting any inquiry it thinks necessaryand paying an amount determined by council approve the nursing health unit.
    • The registrar should not create a nursing health unit or maternity home under the name of an registered midwife or nurse unless the registrar is satisfied there exists a medical professional registered within the area who is responsible for the nursing health center or the maternity home.
  7. The Authority must inform the applicant in writing about their decision in writing within a time of 7 days from the above-mentioned time period. Health committee of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council shall , and upon registration, domiciliary must have a license under the Act and a certificate will be issued in accordance with the requirements laid on Form C of the third Schedule or, if it chooses to not approve the application for a license in the event that it explains the reason in the notice.
  8. Based on the decision of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and subject to any conditions the council can decide the registrar is able to establish a private Nursing Health Unit managed through a physician assistant midwife or nurse, as the situation requires only for the exclusive usage of a corporate body of an institution under the supervision by a registered medical practitioner.
  9. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council will cause a brand new private nursing health facility to be listed in the Gazette within a short time after registration is granted and a license is issued to an nursing facility that includes the specifics that the unit is a Health facility as stipulated under section 33 in the Act.
  10. The license will be subject to the terms and conditions that the committee on health of council determines to be appropriate. Private nursing health unit will also be subject to the supervision and oversight of the council’s health committee.
  11. A license will expire at the expiration of one year after when it was issued. The license can be renewed for a year at a time.

Required Documents For Apply for a Private Nursing Health Unit License

  • Registration certificate/professional ID should be attached on the application form.
  • A receipt for a private nursing unit or personal practice license must be listed on the application form.
  • Private license.
  • The private practice book that will be stamped must be included on the application form.
  • Original certificate or ID of professional with a photocopy of the document for all credentials.
  • Provide a receipt from the previous year in case of renewal of the private health center for nursing
  • Medical certificates and receipts from medical practitioners must be included to the application form.

Eligibility

Fee

  • The license fee for a private health facility is USh. 180,000
  • The renewal fee for a private health facility is Ush. 50,000

Validity

  • The validity period of private nursing facilities is one year

Processing Time

  • The maximum processing time for a private health facility is seven days .

Instructions

  • All private nursing institutions are required to register with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and be acquainted with the regulations governing the practice of medicine in Uganda.
