  1. Fill out applications forms(FORM 11.) in order to obtain both a Driving School License and Driving Instructor License from this page. Look at the bottom of this document or collect them from any TLB office located in Kampala, Mbarara, Fort Portal or Mbale.
  2. Vehicle that is being examined in the SGS Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre in Kawanda as well as the other testing centres , as well as the following documents:
    • Log book
    • Another method of evidence of ownership is required if the log book doesn’t bear the applicant’s name
    • Current Third Party Insurance Certificate
    • For registered businesses with a Certificate of Incorporation are required.
    • A Memorandum or Articles of Association should be submitted to the Board to record the information.
  3. If the vehicle is able to pass tests and proves deemed fit to be used as a Town Taxi or Town Taxi and passes the test, an inspection report will be issued.
  4. Inspection of the Driving School’s premises (Office, Classroom and Training ground) and the cars is conducted by an official of the Transport Licensing Board and the conditions are as the following:
    • A fully-furnished classroom of approximately 10 square meters, or that can hold at least 10 , at given time.
    • At least two instructional vehicles that are road-worthy and equipped with instructor controls.
    • A fully furnished office for Administration.
    • A field of outdoor training that is at least 50×100 meters.
    • With clearly marked clearly marked driving lanes.
    • Minimum of 2 Driving Instructors who meet the following legal requirements in the Regulations.
    • Not younger than 24 years age, and not older than 65 years old.
    • Must have a minimum experience of driving of 5 years or more for the
    • A group of motor vehicles that driver who plans to instruct learners to drive.
    • Attained a minimum level from the Uganda Certificate of Education
    • (UCE) or an equivalent.
    • Learn to write, and read English effectively.
  5. If your school fulfils all the above requirements, go to the URA Portal(www.ura.go.ug)or go to the TLB offices for tax assessment forms for Driving School License, Driving Instructor License and the Certificate of fitness for the vehicles.
  6. Pay at the bank and receive receipts of the payment.
  7. Return to Transport Licensing Board with the receipts.
  8. Your licence is processed, and then issued.

Required Documents For Apply for Driving school Licence

  • Two instruction motor vehicles that are in good mechanical condition, with two clutches, dual brakes to be used for manual vehicles, marked with names of driving schools, the training materials, and a valid trading license
  • Copy of certificate of incorporation memorandum and the articles of association

  • Certified instructors.

Eligibility

  • have a minimum age of 24 or more
  • Possess a valid Ugandan driver’s license
  • be mentally and physically competent
  • Have a good driving record;
  • Not been found guilty of a criminal offense within the last five (5) five years.
  • The instructor should have been trained for instructors.

Fees

  • License fees of Fees for licences are 200,000 Ugshs.
  • Renewal Fee 200 000 Ugshs.

Processing Time

Instructions

  • (1)The Director of Transport shall keep a record of drivers

Driving schools and driving instructors and driving schools.

  • (2)The Director of Transport is required to meet every six months using

suitable communication methods, notify the general public about the approved drivers’ schools, driving teachers and other driving classes.

Information that could be helpful

  • (1)Where an authorization issued pursuant to these Regulations is lost or misplaced,

lost, the Director of Transport shall upon receipt of proof of ownership of the lost or lost licence, and an investigation report from a police officer confirming the loss or disappearance, issue an additional licence.

  • (2)The cost of duplicate licenses shall be equal to fifty dollars.

A percentage of the amount that were paid for the license in the first place.

  • (3)The expiry date for duplicate licences is the date on which it expires that original license.
