Apply for Free zone operator’s Licence or Manager’s Licence In Uganda By Online

  1. Anyone who wants to operate a the business of an owner in a free zone must make an application with the Authority to obtain an operator’s license for free zones or a licence for a manager of a free zone.
  2. The operator’s license or a free zone manager’s licence is available through the Uganda Free Zone Authority.
    • A person is not permitted to operate a business as an operator in a zone that is free unless the Authority grants the Authority an operator’s license or a free zone manager’s license.
    • Anyone who conducts business as an operator of free zone or free zone manager with or without having a license is guilty of an offence and, if found guilty, is subject to a fine not exceeding forty-eight currency points or a sentence of not more than two years or both.
  3. Make sure you fill out the correct application form 7 in the manner described in Uganda Free Zone Authority. Uganda Free zone Authority.
  4. After filling out the form 7, complete the form and pay the fee.
  5. The Form in subregulation (1) must also be completed with all the documents listed below.
    • A duly filled duplicate copy for Form 7 duly filled;
    • A duplicate of the registration certificate or incorporation document for an international company;
    • A duplicate of the memorandum as well as the articles of association of the business entity;
    • A business plan must include an executive overview product and service information that are subject to licence and a market analysis summary and a strategy as well as a implementation report, a company and management plan and a financial plan, as well as any other information that the Authority finds necessary; and
    • or any other document the Authority could require
  6. On receipt of the application upon receipt of the application, the Authority must examine the application to make sure that all required documents are readily available for to process the request.
  7. If, after reviewing the application in accordance with the sub-regulation (1) The Authority determines that it is not complete If the Authority finds that the application is not complete, the Authority will ask the applicant to supply additional details or to clarify the details provided.
  8. Fill out the completed form along with the Pay slip to Licensing Officer in charge.
  9. The Authority must within three months of the receipt of the request or other information, investigate and produce a thorough report on the application in order to facilitate the application to be processed.
    • The Authority will, when evaluating an application in accordance with this regulation take into consideration the following:
    • whether the commercial ventures the applicant is planning to engage in are feasible and are built on a solid business plan
    • whether or not the candidate has an a sufficient equity base or has access to capital
    • the views that of the Commissioner General, and such other bodies relevant to the Authority as be considered by the Authority to be appropriate and
    • whether or not the person applying for the licence has signed an agreement with a bank to indemnify the Authority in the event in the event of non-observance of the terms of the license.
  10. After reviewing the application the Authority will grant a no-cost zone operator’s license for the person who submitted it. Now, you can get the Licence certificate from the location where you made your application within 4 months of the date that the application was received by the Uganda Free Zone Authority in case there is no rejection.

Eligibility

  • Any free zone business that is established in Uganda to serve the sole purpose of operating a freezone is legally eligible.
  • Local and foreign businesses are able to obtain a license to create and manage in a Free Zone provided that they meet the following requirements:
  1. The business must be registered or formed with the sole intention of operating and developing an Free Zone in Uganda;
  2. The company should have a sufficient equity base and access capital that will allow it to develop an Free Zone or operate within the Free Zone and
  3. The projects that the Operator or Developer seeks the Free Zone’s License must be economically viable and built on a sound and solid Business Plan.

Information that could be helpful

  • When a licence is altered or modified in accordance with the sub-regulation (4) The Authority will issue a new licence that outlines the modifications or additions made to the licence.
