Apply For Obtain a Citizenship Certificate in Hungary
- Complete your application on the form.
- Complete your application form with the other documents required.
- Make sure you pay the processing fee. The amount that you have to pay will be contingent on the location you’re submitting your application.
- After receiving your application, the identity of the applicant is confirmed and their signature will be authenticated. The application along with its supporting documents will be sent into the Nationality Directorate of the Office of Immigration and Nationality.
Required Documents For Obtain a Citizenship Certificate

- Hungarian citizens who reside in Hungary must include only their birth and marriage certificates and the marriage certificate of their parents. If they do not attach these documents then the Office of Immigration and Nationality must obtain registry certificates for the national registration event .
- In the event that the person applying for asylum or his family members emigrated from Hungary prior to 1945, it’s recommended to attach the proper document as proof or presumptive evidence that proves Hungarian nationality (such as an older Hungarian passport identification card, identity card, residency certificate or other documents of citizenship that were issued prior to the present Hungarian authorities, specifically documents proving school certificates, occupation cards or soldier’s card or address registration form and documents for changing name, etc.).
- If the applicant is not reside in Hungary the power of attorney to perform services is required to be included with the application, unless the applicant wants the certificate to be sent to the Hungarian consular officer. The application must be completed with the application form needed to be registered in the national register of events in the registry that took place in other countries, and in the event that the applicant wants to establish a residency in Hungary the form for application to be entered into the register of citizens’ personal information and addresses must be included.

What are all the Eligibility
The following people can obtain the citizenship certificate:
- Anyone who is of legal age and who lives in Hungary or elsewhere can obtain an official citizenship certificate, regardless of citizenship.
- For the benefit of a person having only limited legal capacity or with no legal capacity, his/her legal representative must act.
- An application to confirm the citizenship of a person can be made by the person who has a reason to justify his or her legitimate motives in this respect.
- Attorneys and other authorized individuals are not permitted to make the application. However, they can send the documents missing and be issued a certificate when their power of attorney granted to them permits them to take these actions.
Fees
The fee for obtaining the citizen’s certificate of citizenship is HUF 3,000 , which in Hungary must be paid with a duty stamps. If you apply for citizenship abroad, the method by which the fee will be paid and the total charged will be determined by the office that issues the certificate.
Validity
This certificate will be valid for 3 years from the date it was issued.

Processing Time
It can take between 60 and 60 days for the application to be considered after you’ve provided all the necessary documents. The processing time can be more lengthy for incomplete applications.
