Apply for Security Personnel Permit in Hong Kong

Required Documents For Security Personnel Permit

  • The application form must be filled out and filled out and signed.

  • A check for the payment of fees for application ($50) and for the issuance of the Permit for Security Personnel Permit ($110) amounting to $160. The cheque must be be made out in favour of “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”.
  • A photostat duplicate of both sides of the applicant’s current/expired Security Person Permit.
  • Documents supporting Amendment Applications on Category of Security Work.
  • A photostat replica of the applicant’s home address, if the applicant wants the right to mail send mail to their home address. e.g. bills from utilities companies , or bank letters.

What are all the Eligibility

Someone who performs “Security Work on behalf of another for compensation is required to obtain the permit.

Security work refers to one of these:

  • (a) security of any property
  • (b) security of any person or location in the interest of preventing or detecting the commission of any offense;
  • (c) installation, fixing or maintaining an alarm device;
  • (d) creating for a specific location or location where a system is integrated with the security device.

Payments can be made with cash, crossed cheques Octopus, EPS or cash. If you arrive after 4:45 p.m. The office will accept only payments through cheques, EPS, or Octopus. Customers are required to show up the next day to pay cash.

Validity

Permits are usually valid for five years or for such shorter time frame that the Commissioner can decide to specify.

Processing Time

In general applications are processed within the period of 6 working days.

Instructions

Requests of Security Personnel Permit must be addressed in writing to the commissioner of Police (hereafter called “the Commissioner”). The Commissioner will decide if applicants are qualified and appropriate person to perform certain types of security task.

Section 10: Restrictions to performing security work

Nobody shall perform or agree to, nor set himself out being able to perform security work for any other person, unless he does this:

  • (a) within and pursuant to an authorization; or
  • (b) in lieu of reward.

In accordance with Section 31(2) anyone who violates section 10 commits an offense and is subject to a fine of up to $10,000 and a jail sentence of three months.

SMS Reminder Service

  • The Police Licensing Office offers a free SMS Reminder Service for applicants or owners of Security Personnel Permit (SPP). Text messages are sent out to remind you of the dates for taking SPP (for new applicants) and renewing the SPP (within between 3 and 6 months prior to the expiry) and also submitting a medical certificate (for holders who are over 65 and thereafter every biennially after that).
  • To join the service, you must fill out the appropriate form (Pol. 966). Holders can subscribe to or cancel the service by completing an application document “Replacement in Security Permits or Personal Details” (Pol. 1100).
