Apply for Tax Clearance in Hong Kong
- To request tax clearance, you must inform to the Inland Revenue Department of the planned day of your departure. You can call either by phone, email or writing to the Department (contact information below). You must provide your name and Hong Kong Identity Card No. or Passport No. and file No. (if known). For future communication (if you have one), provide your phone number. or your postal address within Hong Kong and also the overseas post office address.
- Submit Tax Return [BIR60]. This Department issues a tax return to you after receiving your notice. Be aware that if the Department is not able to get your completed tax return within the period specified or if it’s impossible to issue a tax return in light of the imminent end of the time for money withholding required by the employer or if the anticipated date of your departure is near and the date of departure is near, the Department will provide an estimated tax in accordance with the information available.
- To ensure that the processing of your application more efficient You can bring along your IR56G that you received from the employer. your payroll slips , and other supporting documents for any deductions or allowances requested. You can also call to send the documents in person.
- Be sure to pay the tax that is due.
After making the payment, bring the receipts in The Collection Section at 7/F of Revenue Tower to obtain copy of the Letter of Release. This Letter of Release will be given to the employer, and also to the employee via post in the event that the employee is unable to take it in person.
