Apply Petitions to the Governor General through the Legal Aid Council In Jamaica By Yourself

  1. You can submit your application for legal aid to any Legal Aid Clinic or Court’s office to request a petition to Governor-General with the help of the Legal Aid Council. You can view the contact information for the Legal Aid Council through this link:
  2. You can obtain the application form at any legal Aid Clinic or Court’s Office, as well as the Legal Aid Council.
  3. Fill out the application correctly. If you are under 18 years old, your guardian, parent or another adult can complete the application for you
  4. For review, submit the application to The Legal Aid Council. You can also submit the application to the Court Office that is handling your case or to the nearest Legal Aid Clinic or The Registrar of The Gun Court or The Registrar of The Supreme Court or The Registrar of The Court of Appeal.
  5. After reviewing your application, you might be asked to show proof of income, savings, earnings, and expenses.
  6. You may then be asked to pay any legal fees necessary to process your petition. A bank voucher will be issued to you to pay your contribution at any Scotia Bank Branch. If you are unable to afford it, you won’t be asked to pay any fees.
  7. After the application has been approved, an attorney will be assigned.
  8. Next, the attorney will file a petition to the governor-general in your behalf for consideration
