  3. Visit the appropriate office. Applications forms are available at the office upon your visit. Make sure you bring the original copy of the documents and copies to your office.
  4. Follow as per the authorities’ guidelines and submit your filled-in application together with the supporting the required documents. The applicant must pay any fees, if needed according to the guidelines.
  5. The application will be handled by the appropriate department.
  6. The certificate is available at the location where the applicants applied in person on notification or issued in accordance with guidelines.

Applying process – abroad for citizens and non-citizens.

A. Apply via consulates or embassy in person
  1. The applicant can apply at their closest consulate or embassy in person. Find the consulate or embassy: use the “mission abroad” menu to locate the on the website.
  2. Applications can be requested from the consulate or the embassy. Contact the office to make an the time to visit for a private visit. Find out more details of this process.
  3. On the day you have been scheduled on the date you have been given, visit the office with documents in original form and in duplicate. Follow the officer’s instructions to process your application.
  4. The application will be processed by the relevant department. The certificates that are completed are sent to the concerned department.
  5. The applicant should take the certificate to the appropriate office on notification or may have it handed over as per the guidelines in force.
B. Apply through a representative
  1. The applicant must authorize a representative to make an application on their behalf to the appropriate “police station” in your current residence”.
  2. The person to be mandated must be given the authorization in writing to apply for the mandate and/or to accept it.
  3. Representatives should bring all required documents as well as the application form completed and visit the appropriate office.
  4. Follow the authorities’ guidelines and send the complete application with all the required the required documents. The representative should be responsible for all fees, if necessary, as per the instructions.
  5. The application will be handled by the appropriate department.
  6. The certificate can be obtained at the place where the applicants applied in person upon notification or issued according to regulations.

Eligibility

  • A person who has a valid passport as well as an address proof that is valid.
  • Age: 15 years old and over. For minors applications must be made by the parent who has parental authority, even if the minor is not yet 16 yet.
  • The residence address for the applicant should be the same as that on the passport as well as other documents supporting it.
  • The applicants must be in need of residence status, employment, or a long term visas or to be admitted to a foreign country.

If you’re from Uganda:
It is recommended to apply in person at your local National Central Bureau of Interpol. You must permit your fingerprints to be taken. Additionally, you should bring:

  • A copy of your identity card
  • Two recent passport size photographs (in colour)
  • A letter of introduction stating the reasons why the police certification is required.

If you’re outside from Uganda:
Apply at the closest High Commission of Uganda or through a representative, a relative or friend. You will need to submit original fingerprints certified by a fingerprint expert, which were taken at a local police station located in your current residence. Also, provide:

  • A letter of introduction stating why the certificate of police is requested.

Documentation is needed

  • This Police Clearance Certificate certifies that the applicant was not involved in any crime that resulted in being a part of Ugandan Police Group.
  • It is also required when applying for a Clearance Certificate from the Police Clearance Certificate will also be required when an individual is applying for an immigration status to other countries.

Information that could be helpful

An official Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the International Criminal Police Organization records disclosure is called “Certificate of Good Conduct” or “Police Clearance Certificate”. Police Clearance Certificates are granted from the National Central Bureau of Interpol, Kampala.

Any person, regardless of whether they were born in Uganda but not in Uganda or with no documentation of birthplace, are able to request a copy of Their Certificate of Good Conduct at Uganda’s National Central Bureau in Kampala and the criminal record information is kept in the National Central Bureau of Interpol.

The Certificate of Good Conduct that confirms that the applicant hasn’t engaged in any crime which led to an involvement by police (Uganda police force) and is required when someone applies for an immigration status in other countries.

The person who is applying for Certificate of Good Conduct are required to provide the duration of their stay in Uganda. Documentary proof of the stay has to be supplied. First Entry and Last Exit dates STAMPs are also required. The entire page of VISA (Colour Copy).

It is available to all those who live for more than six month in Uganda.

Other uses for the document/certificate

  • This approval is needed by those who wish to move their residence country.
  • It is possible to have a police clearance document when you intend to take on the position of a high-risk in Uganda however, it’s not a formal requirement, and is simply called police attestation.
  • You might also have to submit the Police clearance certificate planning to pursue an advanced postgraduate program at international institutions.
  • If you are a tourist in another country, you’ll require a police character certificate. to prove that you don’t have an outstanding criminal history at home, and also to prove that you aren’t a danger to the host country.

URGENT CASES:
Good conduct certificates are given according to The First Come First Serve Principle.
The applicants who apply first will receive their certifications before applicants who apply later. Therefore:

  • Urgent cases have to be authentic and only sanctioned through the director of INTERPOL and International Relations
  • Candidates with genuine urgent situations need to provide authentic documents.
  • There are no middlemen or agents who are allowed to participate as part of the application process. Also, this is to inform applicants that any expenses that are incurred by applicants outside of the ones specified are not the responsibility to the Directorate of INTERPOL and International Relations.
  • Middlemen, imposters or other dubious characters are not able to influence the NCB’s work in any way , form or manner and may be prosecuted and arrested in the event that they interfere with the possession of the ability to screen applicants for the Police Certificates that show good conduct.
