After learning my 14 year old son no longer believed in God, I confiscated all my son’s electronics including his phone and PS5. Why doesn’t he just believe in God again so he can stop crying and get his electronics back?

In the unlikely event that this isn’t a troll posting:

Q: I took all of my son’s electronic devices, including his phone and PS5, after learning that my 14-year-old son didn’t believe in God.

A: He will probably move out of your home in approximately 4 years, and you will never see him again.

Q: Why can’t he believe in God again?

A: Believe in Santa whenever you want.

I don’t say this to denigrate your faith. I just want to show how difficult it can be to believe in something. I’m serious. Do all of the believing in Santa stuff. Write a wishlist and send it to Santa. His address is:

But believing in Santa isn’t the same thing! This exercise is intended to show how absurd it can be to believe in things you don’t believe in.

Now that you’ve tried believing in Santa but failed because you couldn’t will yourself to believe it, you might want to reconsider your position. You don’t want to be a bitter old man asking why your children won’t visit you at Christmas. Your son will also appreciate having a positive father figure in his life.

Please note that I’m not trying to convert you into an atheist. I want you to see that you are ruining yourself and your family.

Instead of punishing your son because he isn’t able to do something impossible, be the best father possible. Accept the fact that your son may have a certain trait that you don’t like. Ask God to bring him back to his faith. You can help him answer any questions about your faith by being honest with him or by working together to find the answers. Do not ignore him or penalize him for being unable to do certain things.
