  1. Permit or licence for butcher can be obtained by contacting Municipality as well as the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and Fisheries
  2. Make sure you fill out the correct application form in accordance with the guidelines provided from the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industries and Fisheries.
  3. Once you have completed the form, then pay the prescribed fee.
  4. Complete the form along with your pay slip with the health officer responsible of the region in which the Butcher is located , or to the near the health inspector office where staff will conduct an inspection of your premises.
    • The Health Officer shall ensure that the building is at a reasonable distance according to the guidelines of the Authority from toilets or garbage skips or unobstructed drainage canals areas for hair dressing or areas where other products apart from meat are offered for sale.
    • The Health Inspector should make sure that the meat is placed in a proper manner to avoid it becoming contamination. In the event that a butcher’s store sells meat from different species of birds or animals the person who licenses the butcher’s store must ensure that there is a facility to properly distinguish and clearly label the meat from the various species of birds or animals.
    • The health inspector must ensure that the Applicant is not allowed to allow any gut scraping cleaning, tripe or household washing to be conducted within their place of work.
    • The applicant is not subject to any rejection of a permit, contamination or meat trimmings that are not meant for sale must be placed in or stored on his or her home, except in receptacles specifically designed to store the waste.
  5. To be eligible to be issued an Butcher’s Shop Licence, the applicant must maintain the hygiene requirements at the pleasure of the Authority with regard to the premises as well as all equipment, items, and utensils that are kept at the Butcher’s Shop;
  6. Take Your Butcher Licence from where your application was received within a day of the date your application was accepted by the municipal or Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries if there isn’t a rejection.

NOTE: A licensee of a butcher’s shop must not permit live animals or animal to remain in the butcher’s store.

  • Clearance from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives for non-nationals
  • Business-registration/registering-a-new-company
  • New business: Original registration certificate (Business name)
  • Certificate of Incorporation (Company)
  • A copy of the letter sent by Uganda Registration Services Bureau
  • Original KCCA receipt from the previous year , which indicates existing business
  • The original rent and tenancy agreement from the Landlord for the business that is being established.
  • The original trading license for the year prior to an already established business.

Instructions

  • The butcher’s shop cannot be used to carry or facilitating of any business or procedure without the written consent from the Council.
  • A licensed butcher’s shop must not allow any live animal or bird be kept within his or the butcher’s store.
  • Any butcher who violates the law commits an offense.
  • The applicant must make all necessary precautions to prevent any meat stored in their premises becoming contaminated by insects.

Information that can be useful

It is the responsibility of the owner of a butcher’s shopto immediately notify the medical officer of health of the existence or suspected presence of any infectious illness among all of their employees. They must also follow any instructions that an official of the health is required to issue for the purpose of keeping the spread of disease.
