Apply for License to Transact Financial Institution Business as Acceptance House In Uganda By Yourself

  1. A request for License to carry out transactions or operate the business of a an acceptance house for a financial institution is to be submitted in written form at the central bank in Uganda.Find their website at the following link Bank of Uganda
    • The Act stipulates the License to transact with financial institutions business of Acceptance House as a Class 6 License.
  2. The applicants are required to gather and fill out the application form. The form is available at the Bank of Uganda head office.
  3. Complete the form complete and with all supporting required documents to Bank of Uganda. If you fail to submit the required documents could render the application process uncomplete.
    • The law states that no person can operate an Acceptance House without a valid license or, as the case may be, issued by the authorities
  4. When the application file when it is received by the central bank receptionist will check if all the data and documents are correct prior to filing the application to be sent to the Central Bank Licensing Board to be assessed, processed, and evaluation at the Central Bank Licensing Board.
  5. The Central Bank Licensing Board will within 6 months after receiving an application, review and produce a thorough report on the application.
  6. During the assessment process , the Central Bank shall be guided by the following guidelines:
    • It is not clear if the newly established Acceptance House will provide any benefit to the nation’s economy or to the consumers of the finance sector.
    • If the applicant is able to provide financial services as a result of an application for license is filed in a safe and sustainable way.
  7. After receiving the application and it is determined that the Central Bank is of the conclusion that it requires additional details to evaluate the application If it is of the opinion that further information is required to evaluate the application, the Central Bank may, within 21 days after the date of receipt of the application, and through in writing, request additional data from the person who submitted it, or third partiesas can be determined as required by the Central Bank, and the notice will:
    • Provide the required information from the applicant.
    • If appropriate, inform the those who have read the application to solicit comments from them.
    • Indicate the date in which information and any comments are to be sent for consideration by Central Bank. Central Bank.
    • Please specify the date that it is expected that the Central Bank intends to make an announcement regarding the application.
  8. The Authority will notify the applicant in writing, of the decision. within 14 days of the above-mentioned time period The Central Bank shall grant or decline to approve the application. If it is decided that the Central Bank decides not to issue the license, it will give the reasons in the notification.
  9. If it is approved If approved, when approved by the Central Bank, Central Bank will inform the applicant within 7 days of determining its decision. The Central Bank will then ask applicants to make payment of the fees for licenses and to obtain the Acceptance House License.
  10. The license will be subject to conditions and terms that they by the Central Bank deem fit. The licensee is also under supervision and oversight from Central Bank. Central Bank.

Required Documents For Apply for License to Transact Financial Institution Business as Acceptance House

  • The prescribed application form, dully filled in must be included to the application form.
  • The national identification card must be attached to your application.
  • Evidence of residence (Voters card, electricity Bill Bill for Telephone, Bill, Passport, driving license)
  • Identification evidence (Permanent Number of Account Number)should be included to the application form.
  • A passport-sized photograph must be included to the form for application.
  • Certificate of incorporation certified by a certified copy that the company was incorporated.
  • A certified duplicate of Memorandum along with the Articles of Association of the proposed institution.
  • A certified copies of Memorandum as well as Articles of Association of any corporate body which plans to hold a significant stake within the organization.
  • A certified copy of the most recent accounts for the audited period of three years prior to the date of application, if the applicant has operated in any industry under any name and under any laws or in the event that one shareholder is a corporate entity.
  • If the shareholders who are proposed to be significant comprise natural individuals, personal statements of accounts for the last three years must be provided.

Eligibility

  • You must have a valid proof of address and identity evidence documents to be able to open the savings accounts at the post office.
  • Anyone is able to submit an application to run an establishment of a financial institution as an acceptance of a house located in Uganda.
  • The application permits a person to run an institution as an accepting house within Uganda.
  • In Uganda nobody is allowed to run a business of a financial institution as an acceptance house within Uganda without the approval of Bank of Uganda

Fees

Application fee:

  • License fee is required for acceptance bank houses 1,000,000 Ugx
  • The license fee is required to accept the house for non-banking houses – 500 000 Ugx

Annual License Costs:

  • Fees that are prescribed from year calendar year through Central Bank by notice. Central Bank by notice

Validity

  • The license is valid for 12 months

Processing Time

  • The maximum processing time is normally 6 months

  • Any financial institution that wants that operates an acceptance house must be registered in the Central Bank ,and be familiar with the rules that govern the practices of banks in Uganda
  • A license issued under Section 12 remains in force until it is revoked.

Information that could be helpful

  • Anyone who runs an establishment as an acceptance house and does not have a valid license is guilty of an offense and, if found guilty, be subject to an amount not exceeding the sum of five million dollars or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or both.
