Eligibility

  • You must have a valid proof of address and identity documents to open a savings accounts at the post office.
  • Anyone is eligible to submit an application for the running of an office savings Bank within Uganda.
  • This program allows an individual to manage an Post office saving Bank in Uganda.
  • In Uganda nobody is allowed to manage a savings or post office Bank in Uganda without the approval of Bank of Uganda.

Fees

  • The fee for a License Application to Post Office Saving Bank is 1,000,000 USh Non-refundable.

Validity

  • The license to operate a Savings Banks at post offices is valid for a year.

Processing Time

  • The maximum processing time required to finish this license is 6 months.

Instructions

  • Any financial institution that wants to run a post office savings bank has to register at Central Bank , and be well-versed in the regulations applicable to the practice of financial institutions in Uganda.
  • A license issued in accordance with Section 12 remains in force until it is revoked.
  • To be granted an authorization, please send the form that you have completed, in the form to Central Bank of Uganda
  • To apply for a new license applicants are required to get approval for a name at Central Bank of Uganda. Central Bank of Uganda and afterward, they will be informed of the required documents to submit along with the filled out form.
  • After meeting all conditions and paying the appropriate fees for licensing, the applicant will be issued an authorization.

The Document is required

  • This license permits the owners to operate a postoffice and a savings Bank located in Uganda.
  • Someone who operates the post office savings Bank without having a valid license is guilty of an offense and could upon conviction be subject to a fine that is not greater than 5 million shillings or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding three years or both.
