  1. You can visit the Returning Resident Unit at Jamaica Customs Agency Head Office to receive the concession.
  2. Before you submit your request, ensure that you have met the eligibility requirements listed in the “Eligibility” section.
  3. You can download the entitlement list directly from this link: Link
  4. Then fill in the form with the items that you want to import. Sign it and write your name. Prepare all required documents and attach them.
  5. To submit the completed application and all required documents to the customs officer at the service window, visit the Returning Resident Unit of the Jamaica Customs Agency Head Office.
  6. After verifying your application, the custom official will interview you about your application.
  7. After your application has been confirmed, the appropriate exemption notice will be prepared. You will then be notified about the next steps in the process of clearance of shipment.
  8. When preparing Customs Import Declaration (IM4 / IMS4), the declaration of values will be used. The customs will authorise the items in the entitlement list to become duty-free.

  3. Please fill in the information required, including your name and email address. Click on “Submit”.
  4. You will be prompted to confirm your submission by the system.
  5. Open the email from the Jamaica Customs Agency.
  6. Please read the email carefully and click “YES” to submit your application. We will then provide you with a username/password that will allow you to complete your booking

Note:

  1. Motor Vehicle Importation Policy will be administered by Trade Board Limited. This board is responsible for granting Import Licenses for motor vehicle importation.
  2. Before importation of animals or pets, you will need an Import Permit from Veterinary Services Division.
  3. A permit from the Plant Quarantine Division, Ministry Of Agricultur is required for the importation of plants

Do it abroad

  • Valid Jamaican Passport, or a foreign passport that has been endorsed with the unconditional landing stamp
  • Validated Bill of Lading/Airway Bill
  • Taxpayers Registration Number (TRN).
  • Documentary evidence to support residency outside of Jamaica for three or more consecutive years.
  • Deportees must present their Deportation Order as well as the case file.

Jamaican Prove

  • Evidence of Jamaican property ownership
  • Letter or contract of employment from potential employer in Jamaica
  • A receipt is required for any rental or lease agreement.

Eligibility

  • A Jamaican citizen who is 18 years old and has lived overseas for 3 years consecutively. He or she will be returning to Jamaica to live permanently.
  • Non-Jamaican spouse of a Jamaican Returning Resident.
  • A Deportee that has lived overseas for 3 years consecutively.

Note:

  • This exemption is only available to qualified applicants.
  • If the Returning Resident arrives in Jamaica with their spouse within three years, they will be considered one.

  • You can import a specified amount of household and personal effects without paying customs duties
  • Returned Residents can import their tools of commerce without paying any customs duties
  • Returning students are allowed to import a reasonable amount of household items, musical instruments, as well as one type of electronic equipment (new and used).
  • Persons deported will be entitled to the same rights as returning residents.
