Get Product Quality Certification (Port Authority) in Nigeria By Yourself

  • The applicant must visit the Office of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to apply in person for Product Quality Certification (Port Authority).

  • You can visit the office to obtain the Application Form for Product Quality Certification from the relevant department.
  • You should ensure that you have all of the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section.
  • Please complete the application form with all required details. Sign the application form.
  • The documents should be attached to the application form.
  • Send the completed application and all supporting documents to the appropriate authority. As directed by the officials, pay the fees.
  • After receiving the submission, SON technical staff inspect the production process and consignments, test the samples and submit a report to the Product Certification Directorate.
  • The Director General will review the reports and make recommendations to approve them.
  • After approval by the Director, the applicant will be notified via phone or email about the approval and asked to collect the certificate through any applicable means.

  • The online application for Product Quality Certification (Port Authority), must be made to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program. Click the following apply online.
  • To register, click on the “Click Here to Register on eSONCAP Portal” link. Click on the “Click Here for Importer Registration” link to go to the Registration page.
  • Next, enter your Tax Identification number and click the “Validate” button.
  • Fill in all details on the next page regarding the importer. Click “Continue”, fill contact details, and check the captcha and ‘terms & conditions’ boxes. Finally, click “Sign Up”.
  • You will see the successful account creation message. Click “OK” button to confirm and then check your email for activation mail. To activate your account, open the mail by clicking “Click to activate” button.
  • Next, follow the same steps as before to log in to the website. Click the “Activate SONCAP certificate” link in the navigation bar. This will allow you to activate your certificate.
  • You will find links to agencies that offer certifications at the bottom of this page. Select the agency you wish to visit and follow the steps to obtain a Product Certificate.
  • Please note that the requirements and application process may differ depending on the agency. Contact the agency to begin the application process.

You will need the document

A Nigerian Exporter must obtain Product Quality Certification during the trading process in order to assure the Port Authority that the product was checked and evaluated for quality assurance by the Standards Organization of Nigeria.

Information that might be of assistance

Based on the product type and the frequency of shipments, there are three types SONCAP certificates.

  • Export of Unregistered Products or Unlicensed Products is not subject to product certificate registration. It is intended for rare exporters.
  • Export of Registered products requires product certificate registration and it is meant for Exporters/manufacturers that have frequent shipments.
  • Export of Licensed Products requires product certificate licensing and it is meant for Manufacturers/producers that have regular shipments.
