Obtain a Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) In Uganda By Online

  • There are two kinds of tax clearance certificates (TCCs) that is:
  1. A Tax Clearance Annual Certificate (ATC): given only once in the course of the year to those who have complied with taxes. This certificate is issued only to clients who have been monitored in their compliance for at minimum 3 (3) year.
  2. Transactional Tax Clearance: issued to a tax payer upon request in the event that the approving authority is confident that the taxpayer has complied to their obligations. It is sent to the entity to the purpose for which the facility was requested for. After it has been provided by the taxpayer the third person (Addressee) and then the Transactional Tax Clearance Certificate expires.

In person application

  1. Visit the office of the licensing authority close to you to complete the requirements and then go to the service desk and ask for help on how to get an tax clearance certificate.
  2. The officer in charge will conduct a computer-based search of the URA database and after approval , you will be notified via email with a copy of the tax clearance certificate
  3. Applications made during weekends or outside of the official office hours, will have to be reviewed on the next day, during working hours.

Application for online use

  1. Visit the URA web portal https://www.ura.go.ug/index.jsp and login to your account
  2. In the e-services section, click the tab for Tax Clearance Certificate. Follow the directions provided in the link below that will help you with the procedure : Guidelines to Follow
  3. In the tab, choose which type of TCC you want to use you want to use, either transactional or annual. If you are applying to be used for annual TCCs, you must record the tax period during which clearance is required. If the applicant is applying for transactional TCC, you’ll have to provide the following information
    1. Contact information for the addressee, including the name, TIN business name, address number, and email address
    2. The reason why the TCC is needed
    3. Period of taxation to which TCC is a part of (cannot be a previous period)
    4. Hit submit after you have completed all mandatory fields.
  4. Once you have submitted the form an acknowledgement receipt be generated for printing the original, as well as an email with the same information will be sent to the email address you registered with.
  5. URA will evaluate your application, and upon approval , you will be sent an email with a confirmation along with an attachment to tax clearance certificate. Tax Clearance Certificate

  • When you have completed your Tax Clearance Certificate Application form online The system assigns your completed form to the officer who is responsible for verification.
  • After the verification process is complete The task is then transferred to the person who approves who will either approve or deny the application after taking a look at the profile of your applicant.
  • Applications made during weekends or outside of work hours are considered on the next working hours.
Note

  • The acknowledgement receipt should include an identification number as well as a search code that can aid the user in tracking the how the application is progressing.

Eligibility

Taxpayers (tax payors) who need TCCs include:

  1. Providing passenger transport services
  2. Offering freight transport services when the vehicles used to transport the goods have an capacity for loading of greater than 2 tons
  3. The company provides ware housing, forwarding and clearing services
  4. Supplying products or services to the Government or
  5. People who may want to get certificates to prove their tax compliance
  6. The process of tendering with the Government.
  7. Transferring funds to another country that exceed UGX 50million.

Fee

  • The process is absolutely free for all.

Validity

  • Tax clearance certificate(TCC) is valid for one year.

Processing Time

  • URA will inform you of the status of your application within 2 working days following receipt of all the required information.

Instructions

  • The requirements for someone to be issued an Tax certification (TCC)
  1. The profile of registration for the tax payer must be up-to-date
  2. Taxpayers should have filed all returns required for tax-registered types.
  3. For non-individuals, individuals who are associated with them (directors or co-partners) must have filed all their tax returns
  4. The return that is submitted must be in good order
  5. All taxes due be payed by taxpayers, or there is an Memorandum of Understanding to pay in instalments

NOTE:

  1. Annual TCCs can be issued to taxpayers who have been monitored for compliance for at minimum 3 (3) consecutive years. In this case you will receive a notice via email, containing the TCC attached. TCC or rejection notice.
  2. For transactional TCCs both the applicant and the addressee both will receive notification via the attached TCC or the rejection notice.
  3. The reasons for approval or denial and an account of the reason for approval or rejection should be recorded as set out for in the process
  4. A response to an TCC application submitted by a taxpayer should be submitted within 2 working days from the date of the date of receipt of the application

Requirements Information

  1. The applicant’s TIN number
  2. Password for the applicant’s password
  3. The TIN that is the name of the person who addresses the mailer (optional)
  4. Contact number, email address and the name of the addressee (mandatory for addresses that don’t have an TIN)
  5. The email address for the applicant(taxpayer)

Need to have the Document

  • The client is issued an official tax certificate from URA to confirm that the taxpayer’s tax affairs are in order as of the date of the certificate’s issuance.

Information that can be useful

How can you determine that you can tell if the TCC has been given from URA or is fake?

  1. Go to URA’s website URA web site URA
  2. On the Home page , under Tax Tools and Documents, click on Document Authentication
  3. Choose the document type from the drop down menu for Tax clearance.
  4. Enter the reference number it appears on the tax clearance certificate. Click on Show Details
  5. In the event that the certification is authentic the system will show information about the certificate. If not it will provide an indication that “no Information Found” when documents are not authentic.
