Eligibility

The applicant must meet all prerequisites to be eligible to apply under Section 31A.

  • You are exempted from the Part V of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956, in accordance with subsection 5 under the Economic Development Act 1968 for at minimum 10 years;
  • You’ve lived in Bermuda for the minimum of 10 years.
  • You resided normally in Bermuda in the two years immediately prior to your the date of application.

To be eligible for a loan to Section 31B

  • The applicant could be a parent or a daughter of someone who has a Permanent Resident’s Certificate in Section 31A and is above the upper limit of compulsory schooling.
  • or, the applicant could have the status of spouse to someone who has a Permanent Resident Certificate in accordance with Section 31A.
  • And , in all cases the candidate must be:
  • at minimum 18 years old

Notes:
In accordance with the regulations of the old part of section 31, section (1) (1) of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956, a person may petition minister for granting of a permanent residence certificate If:

  • the person was a resident of Bermuda prior to or on the 31st of July, 1989;
  • the person has lived in Bermuda for at least 20 years or more;
  • He/she lived in Bermuda for 2 years immediately prior to the filing;
  • The applicant is, at when the application is made not less than 40 years old age at the time of application; and
  • The applicant must apply before the 1st August of 2010.
