Documents that are required Register a Marriage

  • Identification documents for both of the parties:
    • Non-residents require their passports (showing an appropriate immigration status within this country);
    • residents are required to show your National Identity Card (Documento Nacional de Identidad or DNI). Photocopies of these identity documents must be presented
  • If one of the members of the couple is divorced or widowed, then he or she should provide an official copy either of the decree of divorce, or death certificate in the event of a divorce or death.
    • If the document was authenticated outside of Argentina It should be legalized in the country of origin (either by means of the help of an “Apostille” or through one of the Argentine consulate).
    • If divorced people If the marriage prior to divorce was celebrated or divorce decree was made outside of Argentina The certificate of marriage or divorce from another country and/or decree should be recorded in the Argentine Civil Registry Office, via a court proceeding.
    • If both the wedding and divorce were formally celebrated and decreed in a different country, namely outside of Argentina The new wedding is subject to prior approval by the City of Buenos Aires Civil Registry Office
  • Minors (any age group that is younger that 18):
    • identification documents
    • Birth certificate of birth
    • Identification documents for parents, and marriage authorization given by both parents the minor’s guardian or the Argentine court.
    • If you have foreign birth certificate, it must be valid in the country of issue (either by means of the help of an “Apostille” or through the Argentine consulate).
