Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) In Jamaica By Yourself

  1. Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is the corporate responsible for issuing and processing Taxpayer Registration Numbers (TRNs) in Jamaica. This link will allow you to view their contact information: Link
  2. Download the Individual TRN Registration Application Form from the TAJ Website at this link: Link, or obtain it directly by clicking this link: Link
  3. Completion of the application form with all required information.
  4. You can visit any TAJ office to submit your application at the TRN service desk.
  5. An official will verify your application, enter your data into the TAJ system, and generate a TRN for you.
  6. Once the TRN card is processed, it will be issued to you. You can visit the TAJ office or have it mailed directly to your home address.

Application via Mail

  1. After you have completed the application form, attach a copy of your ID document to it.
  2. Send the completed application to Tax Administration Jamaica using their postal address.

  3. During the processing of your application, the TRN number will be sent to you via email.
  4. You can then choose to have the TRN card mailed to your address or to go to TAJ office in person to pick it up.

Third party application

  1. You can also choose to have a representative submit your complete application to the TAJ office along with your identification document if you are unable or unwilling to submit it yourself.

  2. Comply with the application and attach a copy of your identification document.
  3. Send the completed application to Tax Administration Jamaica using their postal address.

Registration

  1. Organisations are eligible to apply to the TRN.
  2. Download the Application Form for Organization TRN Registration from the TAJ Website at this link: link, or directly download it via this link TRN_Form2_ (JUL 28 2016, Designer: jamaicatax.gov.jm).
  3. Fill out the application correctly and attach all required documents
  4. You can then submit your complete application to TAJ or mail it to this address.

  5. TAJ will issue the TRN number to you once the application has been verified. If you have applied by mail, you will receive it via your email address.
  6. The TRN card will be processed by the TAJ office. You can pick it up at the TAJ office, or you can have it mailed to your home.

Online Registration

  1. To apply for TRN online, visit the TAJ Website [www.jamaicatax.gov.jm Link] and log in to the TAJ Web Portal by click on “Login” at the top conner of the right side of the page
  2. If you have an account, enter your username and password. To create a new account, click “Create account”. Fill in the required fields and click on “Next”.
  3. The notice will thank you for creating the account and send your password to your email address.
  4. Sign in with your password, enter the code and click “Save”. You will then be directed to the next page. Here you will need to answer a password restraint question. After answering the question, click on “ Save” to be taken to your account’s online service portal.
  5. Scroll down and select the “ Apply to a TRN” link. This will take you to the default “Instructions page” which provides basic information about the service, the requirements, and what to expect at completion. Once you have read the information, click on “Next to submit the online registration form.
  6. Select the type of application you wish to submit and then click the Next button. Click on the next button to proceed to the “Applicants Details” page. Fill in the required details and then click on the next to send the application.
  7. After reviewing all information, submit your application. A confirmation number will automatically be generated and displayed on screen.
  8. To return to the eServices page, select “ OK” or “ Printable View_” to print confirmation message
  9. After submitting the application, please bring a printed copy of your taxpayer Registration Number to the TAJ office.
  10. Additionally, you will be required to sign the form at the designated section and then present it together with any supporting documents or identification as required by TRN Requirements.
  11. After processing, the TRN cards will be issued.

Required Documents For Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN)

Individuals, sole proprietors, and various organizations need to submit specific documentation when applying for a TRN. Only originals and certified copies are accepted.

Individuals:

  • Application complete
  • Passport OR Driver’s License OR
  • National ID/Voters ID and School ID must be used together with a Birth Certificate (or Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll, if applicable).
  • Individuals who are self-employed must submit their NIS card. If the trade name of applicants is different, the Business Name Registration Certificate will be required.

Notes:

  • Photographs must be certified by any of the following: Justice, Minister of Religion/Marriage Officer, Judge/ Resident Magisterate, Attorney-at Law, Member of Parliament. Parish Councilor. Medical Doctor. School Principal. Civil Servant (SEG3 or higher) or Police Officer at rank of Inspector. To be accepted, photographs must be certified within six months. The following should be included in certification: Certified to be a true photo of.., Name and Title of Certifying officer, Signature of Certifying officer, Date of certification, Official Stamps of certifying officer (not required for JPs). JPs should use their JP numbers
  • A Declaration from the Certifying Officer must accompany certified photographs. The application address must match that on the Declaration by Certifying Officer. You can pick up a blank declaration at your local Tax Office, or download it online through Tax Administration Jamaica’s website.

Individuals who submit applications from abroad:

  • Application complete
  • A certified copy of the applicant’s Passport or Drivers Licence, notarized by a Notary public. Passports or Drivers Licenses must contain the applicant’s name (full name and first name), date and birth, photo and signature.
  • An authorization letter should be attached to the TRN card if someone is authorized to take it. It should include the name of the authorized person to take it.

Note TRN cards for applicants who sent their applications via mail from abroad will be mailed to the address indicated on the application. An official translation of the identification or supporting documents is required if they are not in English. The applicant must sign the application form exactly as the identification. Tax Administration Jamaica’s website allows you to download application forms online.

For Minors (Persons under 18 years):
Minors must complete and sign applications.
The following should be included with any application signed by a parent:

  • Birth certificate for child
  • Professionally produced and certified passport-sized photograph or picture identification for a child
  • TRN & Identification of the parent

Note The parent must sign the birth certificate.

The following should be included in an application signed by a guardian:

  • Birth certificate for child
  • Professionally produced and certified passport-sized photograph or picture identification for a child
  • TRN & Identification of the guardian
  • The court order confirming the legal guardian or
  • Voluntary Declaration by the Guardian and Voluntary Declaration From an Attestor (A person who is aware of the Guardian/Child relationship).

Notes:

Incapable Adults (Persons Unable to Sign / Make a Mark):
The Caretaker must sign the application.

  • A valid ID for the applicant
    • Passport OR Driver’s Licence OR
    • You must use a Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, or Deed Poll, if applicable, with your National ID/Voters ID or School ID.
  • Identification and TRN of the Caretaker
  • OR Power of Attorney
  • Medical Certificate, Voluntary Declaration from the Caretaker AND Voluntary Declaration from an Attestor (A person who knows of the Caretaker/Incapacitated Adult relationship)

  • Business Name Registration Certificate (if applicable).
  • Verification of NIS registration (NIS Verification/Clearance Letter or Payment Card)
  • NIS Card & TRN each Partner
  • Identification for the Signatory Officer

Note – NIS is not required for Partners who are older than 60 years or who live overseas.

For Companies (Jamaican):

  • Signed organization form by Director or Company Secretary
  • Certificate of incorporation
  • Companies that were not registered by February 1, 2005
    • Articles of Association (if Directors are not listed in the Articles of Association), either the Form 12, 13 or 23 will be required.
  • Companies registered as of February 1, 2005
    • Articles of Incorporation (if Directors are not listed in the Articles of Incorporation, a form 23 will need to be completed).
    • The Form 20 is required if the Company Secretary signs an application form.
  • Verification of NIS registration (NIS Verification/Clearance Letter or Payment Card)
  • TRN for each Director
  • Identification for the Signatory Officer

For Overseas Companies, (Has no established place of business in Jamaica):

  • Signed by a Director, completed Organization form
  • Registering and/or charter documents (issued in the country of origin).
  • Identification for the Signatory Officer
  • A letter from the company indicating that it isn’t operating or has an established business in Jamaica

Note – Only originals or notarized copies are accepted for the Registration and Charter Documents. An official translation is required if the identification or supporting documents are not available in English.

For Overseas Companies that are based in Jamaica (Or have an established place of business in Jamaica):

  • Signed Organization Form by Director or Local Representative
  • Letter of registration (issued from the Companies Office of Jamaica).
  • Verification of NIS registration (NIS Verification/Clearance Letter or Payment Card)
  • Companies Office of Jamaica has issued Form 19 and 31 stating the Local Representative and Directors

You will need the document

  • A TRN is a nine-digit unique identification number that is issued to an individual taxpayer, business entity, or organization (non-profit partnership, charity, etc.). Automated system.
