Apply for Classification of the Provisionally Licensed School In Uganda By Yourself

  1. The owner/applicant, who is planning to apply for the license after two years of operation submits a formal application for classification of the school which is provisionally licensed with the chief executive officer, the secretary permanent,, or town clerk to request the authority to classify his/her school. the school.You are able to visit their website at the link below. Ministry of Education and sports
  2. The application should have three reports with it:
    • The District Inspector of Schools;
    • The district health inspector and
    • It is the Directorate of Education Standards in the area where the school is situated.
      • The Act stipulates that, after two years of school, an application to apply for classifying the school that is provisionally licensed must be submitted on paper to the permanent secretary, Chief Administrative Officer or town clerk and must include the specifics specified in the application.
      • The permanent secretary, the chief administrator or town clerk on the form of application will classify the school in order to the distinction between primary and pre-primary schools from the other schools and which could further distinguish by using appropriate nomenclatures.
  3. The permanent secretary, Chief Administrative Officer or town clerk write in a return acknowledging the receipt of the request for permission to classify the school as a temporary licensed school.
  4. The owner receives the application form to classify a school for the provisional permit . The forms are available through the District Education Office.
  5. The district Education Officer sends 3 copies of application forms to the Director of the Education Ministry of Education and Sports.
  6. A Director of Education based on the recommendations or reports from the district or an assessment following an inspection conducted of the Directorate of Education Standards recommends that a school be classified as a provisional permit.
  7. After the two years of school, when the Permanent Secretary or chief administrative officer, or town clerk finds that the institution that is provisionally licensed is running properly and organized, the school’s permanent secretary or town clerk will issue an official certificate of registration and classification of the schools that are provisionally licensed.
    • The classification may be based on expansion of an existing school that is registered to be classed as a brand new school
  8. In the event that the permanent secretary or chief administrative officer town clerk is not satisfied that with the terms set forth in the Act have not been met they can:- extend the temporary license for a time, not over one school year or require the school to be shut down.
  9. The registration can be cancelled if an institution does not meet the requirements for a private school , as laid forth in the Act or is temporarily closed to ensure the security and health of the pupils.
  10. These facilities are checked on a regular basis to ensure that they are valid.

NOTE:A school may change from one status to the next in the event that it meets the criteria for the desired status.

Required Documents For Apply for Classification of the Provisionally Licensed School

  1. Attach an original license letter to run the school.
  2. The original registration certificate of the school needs to be attached to the application.
  3. Minutes from the BOG or recommending the upgrading of the school through the establishment of a dormitory area.
  4. This is the District Inspector of Schools’ report describing the Dormitories as well as other accommodation facilities.
  5. The report lists the essential facilities in the dormitory section, as well as the drawn drawings that have been approved (Building designs) available.
  6. Documentation proving Dormitory Occupancy permit.
  7. A certificate from Occupational Safety and Health from the health official.

Eligibility

  • Any citizens of Uganda who have the necessary qualifications and who meet the requirements as laid out within the Schedule of the Education amended Act may apply to the Ugandan government for Uganda to get a license to start private schools or public schools, respectively.

Fees

  • The classification of provisionally licensed schools is not charged.
  • The department office can be contacted to inquire about any additional fees. But registration and licensing of schools is not charged.

  • This License lasts for a time period that is not less than 1 year

Requirements general:

  • The applicant or an identifiable proprietor/foundation body. They must be a person or group that has a good name and good financial standing prior to submitting an application.
  • The applicant must provide written proof of ownership or lease on land where the institution is located or tenancy agreement for at least five years (in case of hired buildings) prior to the application being submitted.
  • The school must have been licensed and registered by the competent Authority (the Permanent Secretary, the Chief Administrative Officer, or the Town Clerk) to be eligible for Boarding Section.
  • When a new school opens in the year, it must meet the requirements for Licensing as well as registration of schools prior to when the Authority is able to grant permission for the Boarding Section.
