Apply for National Housing Trust (NHT) Contribution Refund In Jamaica By Yourself

Online Application Process

  1. Visit the NHT website National Housing Trust and click “Contributions Refunds” on the right side of the screen.
  2. Fill out the application form and mail
  3. Print an acknowledgement copy that will be generated for your documents
  4. NHT will notify you of the decision of your application within 10 days via text message
  5. If you succeeded then you should collect the refund by contacting your financial institution, or through Jamaica National/Victoria Mutual Remittance Service (fees in the range of $160 and $300 are imposed each by both of these entities)

Applying in-person

  1. Stop by the NHT office, where you will be assisted through the process of applying for NHT
  2. You will need to submit the following documents required documents to the NHT offices in order for the processing of your application (carry your original documentation to verify)
    i. the Tax Identification Number (TRN)
    ii. NHT reference number
    iii. Valid ID (Driver’s License, Passport, Identity Card for Voters, National ID Work ID)
    iv. Mother’s maiden name
    V. Employer’s name
    vi. The method of payment is, the name of the bank and account number, or the remittance agent
    vii. Physical address and postal address
  3. Once your information has been gathered from the NHT officer After that, you will receive an acknowledgement letter.

  • Jamaica citizens who contributed to the National Housing Trust in 2008.
  • A NHT mortgagor, who gets the mortgage they are owed via the Joint Finance Mortgage Programme (JFMP) or the Combined Mortgage Programme (CMP).

I. JMMB Money Transfer J$ 165.00
ii. JN Money Transfer Services – J$ 300.00
iii. VM Money Transfer Services – J$160.00

Benefits

  • There are a variety of benefits Employers can enjoy when they comply to the NHT. Employers that are in compliance can obtain an NHT Clearance Letter. NHT and is required for a business to receive the Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC).
  • Another advantage is that the employer’s donation to NHT can be tax-free and should be considered as an expense incurred when earning income. Furthermore, all Employers who contributed NHT contributions between the years 1976 between 1976 and 1979 are eligible for an annual bonus for the contributions.

Penalties

  • There is currently a penalty fee of 20% per year for late payment of invoices. In addition, if the payment is deemed to be delinquent (usually not paid for more than one year) the additional charge of 10% of the penalty and the arrears incurred is also assessed.
  • If employers are found to have withheld data required by NHT regarding contributions or Annual Returns they could be punished with up to $30,000 or three times amount of unpaid contributions or Annual Returns, whichever is more.
