Apply for Old Age Benefit under National Insurance Scheme In Jamaica By Yourself

  1. To apply to apply for Old Age Benefit under the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) You must send your applications to an NIS office of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS). You can find the NIS contact information in the “Offices and Contact” section further down.
  2. Get the application form from the NIS office in person, or download the application form on the MLSS website by clicking the following link: Link (choose “Old Age Benefit” and download the application form)
  4. Take note of the directions and fill out the application in a correct manner. Make sure that the medical report must be completed by an accredited doctor.
  5. Make the necessary supporting documents and add them to the application form.
  6. Once the application form as well as all documents supporting it have been signed, stamped and certified when required, visit the NIS office and hand in the form to the NIS official at the front desk.
  7. The NIS will examine your application and verify whether the application is in line with the requirements to receive an Old Age Benefit
  8. After all the details have been analyzed and the application has been approved after which NIS will issue the benefits via the bank account details you gave in your application. Likewise, should you be in another country, your benefits will be sent to you.

Eligibility

  • A NIS contributor who meets the NIS contribution requirements is able to receive a retirement pension if the person is at the age of retirement stipulated under the National Insurance Act or the person is eligible to apply for the Invalidity Benefit when he or she is diagnosed with a medical issue that renders the applicant unfit to working for a period of at least 26 weeks.

Fees

  • Application fees are not charged.

Validity

  • The pension for retirement is in force for the life of the contributor.
