Apply for Renew Driver Licence Endorsements in New Zealand
- To renew your endorsement on your licence to renew your endorsement, you need to apply for a driver license agent.
- Submit or present any of the documents listed below:
- The completed application form. The link to get the forms is available under the ‘Documents to Use’.
- Documentation to prove your identity
- Your eyesight must be verified to meet the standard required
- Certificate of medical necessity (if required)
- Certificate of course that is not older than 60 days If renewing: D endorsement
A, P or P endorsements which are expired for longer than five years.
- Take your photo and have your signature taken by the agent who is in charge of licensing.
- Make sure you pay the renewal application costs.
- You’ll receive an interim licence that is good for 21 days. Carry it around with you any time you drive until your new driver’s license is received in the mail approximately two or three weeks.

- To renew a D endorsement: Completed Application Form DL19
- To renew a P, V, I or O endorsement: Completed Application Form DL20
- Documentation to prove your identity
- Your eyesight must be verified to meet the standards required

- A course certificate that isn’t longer than 60 calendar days, if renewing:
- a D endorsement
- The endorsements for P.V. or I are expired for longer than five years.

Instructions
Endorsements that expire along with your licence: Forklift (F) and roller (R) tracks (T) and wheels (W) endorsements expire the same day as your driver’s license, and automatically renewed each time you renew your driver’s license. There is no need to submit an application on your own or pay a fee to renew them – if they’re not expired for longer than five years.
Other endorsements for your driver’s licence expire at different times: D, P V, I, and O endorsements The expiry dates for unsafe goods (D) (D), passenger (P) (P), vehicles recovery (V) Driving instructors (I) and the testing officers (O) endorsements can differ from your driver’s licence expiry date. The expiry date for these endorsements are listed on the reverse of your photo driver’s licence.
- P V, I and O endorsements Renew these endorsements at least 8 weeks prior to when they expire. You’ll receive a notification eight weeks before the date when your endorsement’s due date. If your current address has changed, you are able to modify your information online . Link

You are able to renew your D P, V I and O endorsement at any time.
If you renew your endorsement:
-
- at least 60 days prior to the date the date it’s due to expire for more than 60 days before the date when it expires. The new endorsement will remain valid for a period of one to five years following the day the application was approved
- not more than 60 days before it expires within 60 days of when it will expire. The new endorsement will last for a period of one or five years following the date that expires on the current endorsement.
After it expires, the new endorsement is valid for a period of one to five years following the time your application was accepted
